Very nice again. :goodjob: But fortunately for us civers, you should never say, that this is your last Byzantine set. May be your temporary last Byzantine city set. :D

I think that it is my best byzantine set :)
I will not make more byzantine sets, since i must have made more than ten of them.
I may make a slav and catholic and arabic in the style of this one though.

:goodjob:

Never say never.

I remember a couple of years ago, you said you had given up modding cities, you even posted your working pieces and templates.

Since then you have posted a ton of stuff. I'm sure you will have a brain storm and want to change or add something to these towns again.

Lightning could strike???

Example: I like my cities to be larger, sprawling with roads between the buildings, trees, fountains, town square in the centre of the city, etc...

Does that spark any ideas?? I would hate for this to be your last Byzantine city set.

The problem is that 2d work takes time, and i have not been able to standardise any style, which is also due to the absense of any standard style in civ3 city making unlike in civ2. My civ2 set was made more easily because i already had a style to immitate, and not worry that i would have to create all of the cities in it since they were already there & more will come from others too. Whereas in civ3 there is nothing of this kind and each set pretty much is on its own. Even RedAlert, who did make cities which looked mostly like the firaxis ones, in the end gave up and left the scene :)

And i have given up on any standard style being agreed upon for civ3. Besides, by now sadly i am the only person continuing making city gfx for this game in these forums (possibly anywhere?)

You make it sound like RedAlert gave up because city making was difficult, which wasn't the case at all. He left for R/L issues as far as I understand.

There are still city makers around, although none as active as you. Mrtn as an example, or myself (although I admit it have been some time, and I haven't made that many cities compared to you).

Civ3 cities imo were in many ways a lost cause from the start, due to the massive size of them. While compared to some other games (for example Knights of Honor) they are small, they still are too huge for someone to work a 2d model. In civ2 in contrast to that the size is small so one can pretty much finish a set with eight buildings which themselves would be small. In civ3 there are 10 buildings in the metropolis of this byzantine set and it still does not look that filled up.
Moreover i always tried to convince Ogedei (when he was still making sets that is; but then again he only made asian ones) to agree on some conventions, such as a common centerpiece, or common basic building sizes, but this did not happen. Furthermore when RedAlert left it was obvious that there would be no scene here for city making anymore. Mrtn has created some impressive sets, which had their own style and were close to Firaxis (although imo a lot better) but again he could not help with setting a convention since he did not create the gfx himself (so he could not conform to graphic making he did not control in such a manner).

Furthermore when RedAlert left it was obvious that there would be no scene here for city making anymore.

Allow me to humbly disagree. Things have certainly quieted down since whenever the C3 heyday was, but mods are still being made (I keep threatening to return to work on my own); your graphics are wonderful; and there'll always be someone working on a md who'll figurateively say, "Dang, if only I had a set of Medieval Albanian Yurts ..." ;)

Anyway, I for one would hate to see you "retire" from this - but if the pleasure is gone, so be it. :(

All The Best,

Oz

Its all about the mood Vawnos, you have to be in the mood to make certain graphics, right now I'm not in the mood to contribute much of anything other than leaderheads(Working on one just need pcxs done) but I can and do enjoy doing cities too in Redalert's style. I like these cities the most out of your work (and its alot of good work) because they are closest to Redalert's style. I liked Redalert and miss him from these boards..

So don't leave us Vawnos..
