These left-wing radicals who are undermining our troops represent an insignificant minority of Americans and must not be allowed to make us lose the war!

A solid majority of Americans say they want their congressional representative to support a bill calling for a withdrawal of U.S. forces from Iraq by August 2008. Nearly six-in-ten (59%) say they would like to see their representative vote for such legislation, compared with just 33% who want their representative to oppose it.

Democrats are united in their support of legislation calling for a U.S. troop withdrawal by August 2008, and most independents (61%) also favor this step. Most Republicans oppose this step, but there are substantial divisions within the GOP. More than four-in-ten moderate and liberal Republicans (44%) want their representative to vote for legislation calling for an August 2008 deadline for a troop withdrawal, compared with only about a quarter of conservative Republicans (26%).

Damn hippies!

Im suprised its only 59%. :(

I am very doubtful iraq will be anywhere close to secure by 2008.

If major headway was being made internally as far as the Iraqi government and security, which is what our military presence in Iraq is supposed to be all about right now, then I would say keep pouring more soldiers in there. However, I haven't heard any significantly progressive piece of news yet in the last couple years from either liberal or conservative media sources. Thus I am inclined to say that I want the troops to come home now and have the govt. quite draining our money. I have faith that our military could do the job, but as it is the govt. is simply not letting all the pieces fit together.

Typo did you mean 3008? :mischief: :)
Are you implying that his statement was incorrect and that in fact Iraq will be stable by Aug 2008?

Depends on the question. I'd love to have the troops out tomorrow. However, I wouldn't want to waste all this effort and let the nation fall apart.

Maybe we should withdraw now and stop putting our soldiers' lives in danger there.

If a country doesn't know that others are trying to help it and wants to to go back to its old ways, it deserves to fall apart. Withdraw now and that's what will happen. They deserve it.

Oh God, I hate this psychological defense mechanism.

They didn't ask for us to go over there and... er... bomb them to ****.

This is our failure not theirs. Americans, invaded and submitted to the same treatment by a foreign occupier, would not behave differently.

Ask them when they retire

They might be less partial when retired, but how would they be more knowledgeable on the current situation than someone currently active in the war?

Who was the last General to publically disagree with the Commander-in-Chief? If they all agreed with him and they have screwed things up this much, maybe they aren't the best people to ask.

I consider myself to be somewhat liberal and a moderate democrat, but I want to keep the troops deployed. You guys act as if we withdraw, sunshine and rainbows will reign over America and the Islamic world will just go away. If we don't stand our ground now, what precedent does that hold for future conflicts?

Perhaps. Withdrawing troops is not only militarily the most strategic thing to do right now, but politically as well. I am not sure what the generals are really aiming for right now, it all seems rather unnecessary at this point.

I don't think we should leave until this mess is figured out. We need to finish what we started, no matter how much it stinks. Yes, I'd like the troops home now if it were possible, but I don't want to see an entire nation suffer even more than it already is because of it.

The reason the conflict ensues is because U.S. troops are present. Basically, we are giving job security to thousands of insurgents/terrorists.

As a radical, left-wing American, one who thinks Bush majorly fuc... messed up, I say troops need to stay in Iraq until the country is stable or until the Iraqi government asks them to leave.
