Unique units and buildings are great. I would like to see more unique items for each civ, such as unique exports, unique non-military units and unique abilities.

America
Unique Export
– Fast Food
All cities with trade networks to American cities are importers of fast food. The city gets -1 health, -1 beaker and +1 happy (fat, dumb and happy) for each trade route.
Unique Non-military Unit – Tainted Celebrity (Not-so-great Artist)
Paris Hilton, Tom Cruise, Britney Spears to name few. Generated like great people after discovery of Mass Media. +1 happiness, -2 hammer for 10 turns as people amuse themselves and waste work time as the media is saturated with their lurid stories.
Unique Ability – All Modern-age military units gain +50% to attacks in foreign lands, but can never quell resistance in captured cities.

Aztecs
Unique Export
– Migrant Worker.
These workers appear within civs that share a border with the Aztecs. The workers automatically make improvements, but one gold per turn is sent back the Aztecs for each migrant worker in your civ. They can be deported, but they reappear the following turn.
Unique Non-military Unit – Kidnapper
Civs with open border agreements with the Aztecs randomly lose 10 gold from their treasury as payment to release tourist hostages.
Unique Ability – Drug Smuggling.
All civs which share cultural boundaries with the Aztecs have 5% loss of production do to drug use by its citizenry.

France
Unique Export
– Fine Food, such as French Fries, French Toast and French Vanilla Ice Cream.
Each foreign trade route implies the export of these fine delectables. Each foreign trade route creates a new city specialist, the snob. The French city with the most snobs gains a 25% commerce bonus from increased tourism.
Unique Non-military Unit – Striker.
Like WTK, strikers appear randomly in cities. When a striker appears, the city goes into revolt for one turn. The French government grants shorter hours, more vacation, etc., which creates 10 turns of +2 happiness and -25% hammers for that city. A worker is needed to remove burnt cars from the city core.
Unique Ability – All Modern-age military units retreating from combat move 2X. France may nullify defensive pacts at will.

China
Unique Export
– Toxic Cloud
A toxic cloud of the same size and shape as nuclear fallout appears in cities with factories. The cloud drifts around the world, slowly dissipating, adding +5 unhealthiness to all cities in its path.
Unique Non-military Unit – Political Dissident/Slave Laborer
These randomly generated units appear in cities and function as regular workers, but at twice rate of improvement. They die after 10 turns.
Unique Ability – Fixed Currency
All trade partners with China pay -1 gold per item traded and China reaps +1 gold for each item traded.

Russia
Unique Export
– Nuclear material
Russia may secretly export enough nuclear material to make one nuke missile, once every 10 turns, to any interested nation.
Unique Non-military Unit – KGB Assassin
Russian spies have a 10% chance per turn of revealing another spy within its visibility range. Once spotted, the assassin will destroy the other spy with a ricin coated pellet, a dioxin drink, a plutonium cocktail, etc.
Unique Ability – Vassal State Influence
Russia has an 50% chance of vassalizing another civ. If the vasselship is broken for any reason, Russia will complain incessantly about foreign influence.

I, personally, do not really like UUs. I would like to see the game set the playing field as level as possible and let players gain power from level ground.

What's the fun if there's no differences between civs? It forces strategic decisions on the player. More realism.

Interesting idea. I'm going to assume that you're deadly serious; some of the things you say below seem too much like jokes that you might see on TDS or TCR than actual serious suggestions. If you're joking, I apologize.

1. If you're not American, be aware that there are better forums--online and off--for making snide remarks (many if not most of them true, I'll grant you) about Americans. If you are American, and are a Democrat: please stop, you're giving the party a bad name. If you're an American and neither a Democrat nor a Republican: OK, fine. If you're an American and a Republican, I don't know what to say.

2. Perhaps the UE and UNMU are logical extensions of any reasonably American culture, but the last thing is definitely only because of the good hand that the 20th century dealt the USA.

All of this conflates "Aztecs" with "Mexico," which while historically accurate is something Firaxis has refused to do. Anyway, in a world where the Aztecs don't get taken over by Spain, who's to say that they would end up anything like they are now?

France
Unique Export

While amusing, these supposedly quintessentially French traits are mostly a function of recent French history; for instance, as anyone who's looked at a serious accounting of French wars knows, they were actually pretty decent before Louis XVI decided that the coolest way for him to commit suicide was to get caught leaving Paris incognito. The food thing is more because France was blessed with good farmland; if France was in Scandinavia, I don't think they'd be selling quite as much wine (though perhaps they'd still have the good cheese).

China
Unique Export

All of this is Communist China only. Things were rather different before 1949, and they will likely be different again within the next thirty years. Granted, it fits the real-life personalities of both Qin Shi Huang and Mao Zedong to do the first two things, but the current government is trying to distance itself from those practices and the third, a distinctly present-day practice, is likely to end within a decade or two.

Russia

This is one of the strongest indications to me that this is probably a joke, but I'll proceed to criticize it anyway.

All three of these are either late Soviet or post-Soviet attitudes/abilities/whatever. I would kindly remind everyone that Stalin died in
1953, and that Marx's father was just a little boy when Catherine the Great died in 1792.

Again, if KhanQuest was making a massive joke, I apologize and offer this set of smilies in repentance:

:) :p :crazyeye:  :goodjob:

Lockesdonkey, I was indeed joking. I hope you got a chuckle from them. Suggestions seem to be tapering off, so I thought I'd toss a little humor in. None the less, I do appreciate all your comments.
I know France had some kick @$$ conquests in their time.
I am mostly poking fun at current events.

Well Khan Quest, I sure as hell got a chuckle out of them and who knows, there's always some resourcefull modders out there....

Engerland

Unique export. Mad cows. Instantly turn the targeted nation into vegetarians, so no health from cattle and sheep.

Unique unit is the Hooligan. Available with nationalism - replaces worker. Once built the hooligan immediateley seeks towards foreign cities with coliseums and negates any happiness created by these buildings. Police states are immune.

Unique ability. Leader can turn into a poodle, vastly improving diplomatic relations.

Now being serious (and hijacking my own thread to spew political blather), it is not our military I am poking fun at, but its current leadership.

I am indeed a Republican of 25 years. I have been since day one. I have always voted for GOP presidents, except for the clown George W., who I did not vote for either time. Any military commander worth his salt knows you need sufficient ground forces to secure captured ground; this has been true since the history of warfare. Next election I hope to see McCain in office.

I spent 6 years in the military and have experiences beyond the cushy American bubble and understand why we absolutely must be successful in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Now back to our regular programming...

 That's great. I was trying to come up with something for England but it didn't come to me.

Scandinavia
Unique export - Animal pornography. Requires animal husbandry and mass media. Expires with the invention of the internet. The gross out factor produces one unhealthy in each city in targeted nation.

Unique Unit - Great Cartoonist. Replaces Great Artist. Instead of making a great work, the GC can be commisioned to draw caricatures of holy prophets, causing one unhappy face in cities with the targeted religion. This causes a diplomatic backlash.

Unique ability - Cities get one happy face from the paganism religious civic.

well, i find everythings in this part quite offensive to french people....
if fine food means french fries (that come form belgium), toast and vanilla ice cream, i think you miss a lot on french fine food.
i won't say anythink about the striker, i know French people are often seen as lazy people always striking, blah!!!
and the modern ability is limit an insult. I don't want to restart another "french military history" flame war, but where the hell do the "France may nullify defensive pacts at will" come from?

The poster is obviously trying to make a joke here. Let's allow the thread to die. The poster is obviously not proprosing that the producer implement these ideas.
