"To Raze or Not to Raze, that is the question..."

So... my personal policy is not to raze in general... for my personal games, it helps to make them more relaxed... in general it also kinda "feels" wrong (in the first Civ III demogame "Falcon's Haven" was razed by the Aztecs or Egyptians. Thus I have certain biases against it)... As such, in general I'm not going to raze a city unless the people directly support it.

Since several people have voiced their opinions in favor of Razing, to settle the matter here is a poll to determine what cities, if any, of Napoleon's we intend to burn to the ground.

When voting on these cities, assume if we would take over the city would you want to keep it or raze it. I'm going to leave Paris out... just for the simple fact we don't know exactly what Paris looks like... so we don't have all the info to decide on that one.

Anyway, here you go, vote for all those you want to raze... and if none... None of the Above (no, I am NOT suggested we raze NotA :p)

Some Reasoning for Razing, taken from the War!!! thread

Falcon 02:

"Rheims must be razed,Lyons maybe". Two reasons for the difference:
a) Civilian: Rheims is poor, coastal but no sea resources,a lot of overlaped
tiles with our Coopertown,just the cows, while Lyons has a sea resource,
only 3 overlaps and is a reasonable city. But,more important,
b) Military: a look at the map, shows from our left to right, NotA, Riversight
and Coopertown, on the exterior lines; Rheims is on their left,our right,flank;
Lyons is almost the center of the operations theater.
Said position (Lyons situation) allows us to go to Orleans and, in their hands,
allow them to attack all our empire (cities,resources,communications) but EA.
So,we shall need to have troops on Lyons place and destroy the enemy
troops trying to arrive/stay there.
I,as one, should raze,Lions,too, but that is questionable; to make a
garrison travel to distant and out of center poor Rheims would be an
heavy mistake; Rheims must be razed just to not threat Coopertown
and not to build enemy troops.

About to try to delay this war, I respectfully disagree: the most dramatic
change would be a German intervention and they are closer to French;
lets deal with French (at least, their attack,Rheims and Lyons) before Germany get some ideas.

Best regards,

Primary practical arguments that I've seen against razing cities is

A.) Makes land available for Caesar to potentially make a land grab for it before we get to it.

B.) We'd spend extra time and production on Settlers that we otherwise could use to expand elsewhere.

Two things I really do not like is to raze and to overlap. But I must not vote

for an ideal game, but to this actual one.

Warlord put my post into this thread,thanks.

By the reasons I posted, I say raze Rheims without any doubts (just my opinion,

surely).

And also vote raze Lyons because I believe to keep and defend it, should be

very hard and not worth enough.

Keep Orleans! When we take it,we shall have the strength to keep it, and our

troops shall be concentrated there; and,very probably, keep Paris,too.
