Seein the fact were able to change the graphics 'look' with the next next X pak, Im wonderin if this means we can now play using a simple Civ2 or the civ3 look. The main reasons being:

one: we got a treasure trove of units to represent every type for every culture.

two: The quick response and rapid tap abilties that came with these e2d graphics could also be crossed over to the 3d engine to right?

Would the less complex 2d graphics's fidget and fortify animations speed up huge maps where units stand around in the thousands?

Just some thoughts.

i don't think it would be possible :(

Changing graphics in game (wich i think would be gui (except this we can change now)) doesn't mean you can change graphic engine.

Hovewer it's kinda possible right now but without animations - and everything looks crappy a little bit - you may put to the game flat planes (squares) with civ3 unit - but noone do this - i don't think it's good alternative - only for vsop pc

Ah crap I was imagin things. Figured now we could port over matching terrain and graphics/units that were animated to play a sorta civ3 but with all the CIv4 trimmings and mod extras ...of course then you have to come and wake me up . Gee Thanks   ;)

Hey, T.A, was this by any chance sparked by my post in the editor petition thread? ;)

From using other programs, I think converting the terrain into an isometric grid should be the easy part. The hardest part would be getting the Civ3 units across! I myself still believe there must be some way for Fireaxis to do this, however... Ah, well, guys like us can dream :)

You know.. you probably can totally replace the graphics engine now too.. if you intend to code all the graphics stuff yourself...
Pitboss is basically civ4 without the standard graphics engine.. so all you have to do is add your own graphics stuff in the DLL and start it from pitboss.

(ofcourse.. I havent tried this.. but I see no reason why it should not work)

For me, a game that is graphically Civ III, but with Civ IV's editing possibilities, would be perfect. I believe if a modder was able to achieve this, they'd be straight into the Civ hall of fame ;) .

R8XFT.....I could not have said it better ;)

The old saying goes...if it aint broke, dont fix it. Why, oh, why do game programmers think that 3d makes a game better

Just think how perfect it would be to be able to port across all those Civ3 (high poly) units and take advantage of civ 4's modibility :D

Call me old fashion but I prefer 2d graphics over 3d any day.

IIRC, from working with the unit creators during my Civ3 days, the 3d models they used to then generate the sprites were high poly count models.

asiox3, do you know anyone who can assist with the problem I posted in the thread you mention. I really would like to consider this mod for inclusion as an option in my RSR mod.

I don't know how to fix this :(
