NEO NES : AGE OF GREATNESS

The year is 1466, Noone knew that it was the Eve of one of the most important ages in Human History. Almost simultaneously a new world would be discovered by both Asians and Europeans.
Europe is very fragmented, however history took a secular path. Catholicism represents Christianity from England to Russia and Greece to Spain. The Pope rules this church from its humble cathedral in Rome, but has traditionally taken a completely secular post. Not interfering with politics and only working on regards to the questions of salvation. Religion is an important factor, but only merely used as excuses against Pagans and Muslims. Conflicts between states are merely those of power, wealth and self interests. There has been a revival of classicism as well as new scientific developments, which in time revolutionize the world.
Asia is also surprisingly divided. The most advanced nations are the 5 Great Chinese kingdoms, Korea and Japan. Conflict and competition between them has forced them to continue invention and inovation. It is this stuggle that has made the east asian kingdoms strong and willing to look out of their sphere of influnce. They have a similar technological level of that of Europe. In fact the wars between the great kingdoms have allowed Europe to catch up. The recent peace has allowed a few powerful figureheads to ponder upon expanding their wisdom into new lands.

As leader of your nation, you must lead it to victory and greatness. Whether you expand in the new world, or conquer the old world, is up to you.
 
RULES:
Intro: This nes will end in September 1. I dunno how many updates it will have, but hopefully it will be a fun short summer Nes.

ECONOMY:
Economy is made up by production points. You get PPs from Commerce and Industry. Commerce represents your overall national economy, trade, taxes etc. Industry is represented by cities. Each city in your control gives you 1 PP.

So to know how many PPs you have, just add Commerce and Industry.

There is however an additional stat. CORRUPTION/WASTE. These are negative to your overall economy. If you have 2 PPs from commerce, 3 PPs from infrastructure but corruption/waste is 3, then you will only have 2 PPs to spend that turn. 2+3= 5 PPs - 3 = 2 PPs to spend.

To increase Commerce by one point, it will cost you 3 PPs.
You cant build cities, so your best bet to have more is conquest. Cities will also appear in your colonial holds, so colonial expansion is a good way to get new cities.

Corruption increases by the size of your nation, and the overall political/diplomatic status. Also, i will always increase corruption by one point if you miss to do orders in time. Corruption decreases by stories.

MILITARY

Military is simple. 1 PP gets you 5 divisions or 5 Navy squadrons.

Note that 1 squadron can transport up to one division. Also when ships are used as transports, dont count on that ship to be able to attack or defend while loaded with troops. So take it into consideration.

Tech Level:
Research is important but expensive. The more advanced, the more efficient, richer and powerful.

Level 0 = These are nations that have the technology and institutions of the high middle ages at best. Not very efficient, and its armies not very sophisticated. To move from Level 0 to Level 1, you must invest 5 PPs.

Level 1 = Early Rennasance, 25% of succesful colonization missions. Ships can move into seas, but ocean vogages are dangerous. Early Gunpowder weapons. To move from Level 1 to Level 2, you must invest 10 PPs.

Level 2 - Middle Rennasance, 50% of succesful colonization missions. Ships are much safer moving in oceans, but there are occational problems. Guns are more common and effective. Army strenght doubles.
Getting to Level 2 cuts your army and navy numbers in half because those units are simply too outdated.
To move from Level 2 to Level 3 you must spend 25 PPs.

Level 3 - Late Rennasance/Enlightment, 75% of succesful colonization missions. Transcontinental ocean trips are relatively safe. Gunpowder dominates the battlefield. Army strenght doubles. There is no penalty of army reduction since it only requires exchange of guns rather than training, weapons and equipment.

You cannot trade tech levels, you must achieve them on your own.

You tell me what they do, and ill tell you how much it costs and how many turns it will take to complete. Yes, wonders are NOT free :)

Exploration/Colonization Missions:

To Expand in America, Africa or Oceania, you will need to send Exploration/colonization missions. They cost 1 PP per mission. However the chances of them to be succesful ranges on the tech level that you have. Once that you have a colony established, it will slowly expand and new cities might randomly pop up if the place has commercial/industrial importance. You can also send exploration/colonization missions to colonies that you already have to encourage growth and further expansion there.

Stories:
For a story to qualify for "free random events" or to reduce corruption it must be at least 250 words long. However writing long or many stories will not get you additional bonuses. So you can still win the nes if you are not much of a storywritter.

Orders: Orders are due Wednsday, 7 AM US Central time. I might take late orders, but there is no guarantee. If you dont get orders in time or forget to send orders, i will still spend your money on growing economy or something. However I will also automatically increase your corruption by one point.

I only take orders by PM and that means i will also only accept one PM per turn. Also, be sure your orders will be final before you send them, because if you send them early and i go ahead and start your update with those orders, i will simply ignore new ones.

You can play any of the European Nations and the Great powers of East Asia (chinese kingdoms, korea and Japan). The rest or NPCd. I have also NPCd Switzerland.

as you expand in the new world, there will be new civs and barbarians, etc etc.

I left the old world pretty much the same, however i did a little bit of changes to the new world as to add flavor to the nes.

yeah, not many of the cities fill the historical centers of culture and power. Its and alternate history.... well thats how i explain my laziness at some of the cities :)
