The Great Explorer.

* Can make "voyage (or journey) of discovery" which reveals a certain part of the map, more depending on current tech level.

* Can bind to a unit like a warlord to give said unit increased movement and resilience at sea, with maybe some other benefits.

* Could be used once to make a negotiation with someone whom you haven't yet contacted.

* Created in your capital based on the number of tiles you have explored.

Thoughts?

That would be fun when someone discovers satiletites, hundreds of great explorers popping up

Good idea though

I guess the number of tiles that would have to be discovered for a great explorer would increase for each one created globally, to reward early exploration.

One idea that came to my head once is a great person called an "Imfamous Rebel."

Quite simply since unhappy citizens are a sort of specialist. (They specialize in eating your food.)

Quite simply an alternate slide(that is kept behind the scene perhaps) accumulates 3 points per turn per angry citizen. When that slide reaches it's max, it will spawn an "Imfamous Rebel" Which acts like a great person for the barbarians. It cannot be seen, but it has a number of abilities. It will act upon the city that forms it or a nearby city. It can join a barbarian city as any superspecialist. It can perform any action a spy can, except there is no chance of failure and it's abilities go even further. It may destroy any building except for the palace, including Great Wonders, or it perform a revolt upon a city. Said city suffers an attack from within the city that bypasses walls and terrain defense bonuses. First a number of low powered bombardments equal to the city's population size hits the culture defense, then number of weaker barbarian units equal to the city's population size engage the city's defenders, then a number of stronger barbarian units equal to the number of angry citizens in the city engage the city's defenders. If the defenders are defeated, the city becomes a bararian city, with the remaining undefeated units from the revolt fortified inside it.

You mean you like the idea of some punk showing up and jacking your capital because you have unhappy people in it? The idea is that the Imfamous Rebel is a unit in the possession of the barbarians... It's like a great person that hates you... Yeah I like the idea too... that's why I bothered posting it. lol.

no i like the idea over all but if the barbs use it correctly it could really hurt a civilization

I really like the Great Explorer. Only problem is that I see a limited window of opportunity for one (and buying maps should never go towards the tile accumulation). How many could one actually get over the course of the game? 1? 2? (Circumnavigating the Globe should autocreate a Great Explorer, btw) Not sure if it's worthwhile for such a limited game effect (but I do like it ... maybe it's something better suited to a scenario?)
