Chinese Internet Blockade to a whole new level-forum, bbs, blog are now censored

Glad I installed TOR before, and I'm now posting in CFC with this software.

It's 9 a.m. in Chinese Standard Time now and I can't access any URL with "bbs", "forum" or "blog" except certain websites. I'm not sure it's the real deal or just a test of keyword censorship technology.

Any attempt to such pages will result a HTTP 404. What makes it worse is that the HTTP 404 is now hijacked by China Telecom, even using Firefox browser. The HTTP 404 is now redirected to a China Telecom Co. search website, which is very vulnerable to hackers' attack, according to a blog, which I can only accessed with Google Cache. Now should we become Democratic People's Republic of Korea?
 
So is there any real reason the chinese government feels they have to censor their people?
 
First, censorship makes government happier;
Second, 404 and search page hijack generate enormous advertisement income for China Telecom;
Third, we shouldn't say anything, even in English.
 
Man that sucks.

I hope the economic advances tow humanitarian rights behind them quickly.


Maybe you could find a way to pirate freedom.

And last night I posted from an internet cafe and encountered no problems either.

Well, are you using China Telecom? Any site that I can't access resulted this: 114 Search

Edit: it may an unfortunate incident, combined with keyword filtering, 404 page hijacking and an incompetent DNS server by China Telecom. For example, I can access CFC main page but not forum page.

Edit 2: The system is rather weird. By entering "http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=223430" I got a normal HTTP 404; by entering "http://forums.civfanatics.com" I got the 114 search page.

Edit 3: Finally back online! It's only a China Telecom test. Phhhhewwww! And when I enter an non-exist URL in Firefox, I get the normal Page Not Found.

However, the connection is rather unstable in this phase of test. It's just on and off randomly.
 
I have no idea what ISP they're using. And what you described sounds familiarly like a familiar dirty tactic used by local search engine companies to boost their business. I don't dare click the link you supplied because it just might install Trojans to my computer. 他妈的奸商。。。:shake:
 
Hey Dann, don't use "TMD", it's very inappropriate in this forum.
If it's the familiar local ISP page, I wouldn't be that surprised, seeing this hijack for more than five years. But in this 114 search page, I see nothing local, no local phone number, no local host mailbox, all I see is a very Pekingese site made for every China Telecom ISP.
 
It's very similar to the temporary un-ban and re-ban wikipedia on Oct and Nov 2006.

At the early stage, several Chinese found that wikipedia is un-banned in Oct. Then in early Nov, a temporary ban on wikipedia lasted for one day or two in some ISPs, then it was completely re-blocked again on Nov 17.

I'm very paranoid about the Golden Shield system, any temporary ban could be a prelude of permanent actions.
 
How dangerour is it for you guys to post things critsing the goverment? If what tv tells me is true soon some chinese thugs and going to drag you outside and shot ya... then if tv is correct charge your family for the bullet.
 
Don't believe such propaganda, no one is gonna shot me out.

Then, in case those thugs stormed in my house and killed me, you wouldn't see me online, and you'll know that.
 
Or we could go with the more logical optian that the chinese information blockade afflicted your program two.

If the chinese goverment shot as many people as the blockad afflicts there wouldn't be many chinese now would there.

You do realise that this is the government that has killed more people then any other in history, ever, Right?

Yep but that doesn't mean that they could afford to kill I would say 70%.

Thats true, I'm just saying he makes it sound like they're not in the habit of shooting people. Course it does tend to take a bit more then posting on CFC to get them that pissed. :p
