Next playsession is scheduled for Monday (It's actually a holiday here).
Designated Player: dutchfire
Session Type: Online

Starting Save

7:00 GMT is the estimated time, it might change drastically based on my real life. It won't start before 7:00 GMT though. I'll post here when I start playing.

THIS IS NOT A DISCUSSION THREAD!

NoneOfTheAbove
Work all farms and mines, and after 3 turns a grassland forest too.
Build some macemen (depending on war situation, stop when Paris falls), a monastry and a courthouse.

Lyons
Lighthouse->Temple(if no happiness problems courthouse)

Orleans
Courthouse

Great Prophet -> Equus Aurum

Could I have some more instructions please?

Trade

Sell Metal Casting to Caesar, in exchange for Calendar and 120 gold.
Additional trades are allowed if they are within 100 gold of balanced, or in our favor by any amount.

Civics

Adopt Hereditary Rule when Monarchy is learned. The revolution may be delayed up to 3 turns to allow a critical build will finish first, at DP's discretion.

Workers

Allocate 2 workers to NoneOfTheAbove, to build a plantation and connect the silks to the SE.
After (if) Marseilles is captured and is out of resistance, allocate 2 workers. Until then, DP can use these workers for other tasks as needed.
When safe, connect Marseilles with an additional worker, until then DP's discretion for this worker.
Use one worker to build a road toward the barb city.
Remaining 2 workers stay at City #1.

Summary: Connect silks (2), Marseilles (2), City #1 (2), roads (2).

Great Prophet
Build shrine.

Demands
Refuse demands. We are strong enough now that it shouldn't happen.

Stop Orders
Stop if anyone declares war on us.
Stop if any new civilization discovers us.

If no Orders, my suggestions are:
If a build queue for Marseilles is not set, please build something which generates culture. We will need those dyes to the NW.
It would be helpful to spread our religion to any of our cities which don't already have it. Strongly suggest we squeeze in a missionary, or several. Priority to bring into the faith are Marseilles (to expand borders), City #1, Orleans. The shrine will spread religion to connected cities.

Coppertown

Citizens
* Keep working the current tiles
* Relocatation of citizens is up to the DP

Build queue
* Finish Keshik
* Construct Maceman (1 or more)

I am not 100% sure what our tech tree is like since i can't access the save again! But I was thinking of researching polythesim and then literature

Some tech cost info has been posted here.

Governor of Riversight

Riversight

When the unhappy citizen becomes happy have him work the plains forest

Finish the forge and then build a market, if time permits build a courthouse

If a worker is free to work around Riversight build a mine south of the city

City #1

Finish Granary, then begin work on a library

Build a plantation on the bananas and connect it with a road, then build a cottage sw of the city, if time permits begin a mine ne of the city. Make sure that citizens work the plantation and the cottage when they come online.

Have a good session :)

Sorry it took me so long to post, I've been debating what to do with troop movements since we're kinda spread out now.

Troop Movements
Recall all units near Marsailles and take them back to Paris. Be sure to move the Mounted units seperate of the Axeman, so they can get there quicker.

New units should go to Paris to aid in taking the French Capital.

Reduce Paris' defenses before attacking the city.

Give Promotions as you see fit.

Continue moving Barbarian Expedition to Barbarian City.

Once Paris Falls distribute troops as you see fit between Marsailles and Tours.

Going to start the TC in a few minutes

<MSTK> Did I miss the time zone again? Or am I right this time?
<dutchfire> You're right, I've just started up Civ
<MSTK> I haven't attended a turnchat in at least two years. are they usually this quiet these days? Or is this just an unusual hour?
<dutchfire> unusual hour
<dutchfire> reassigned tiles, withdrew troops from Marseilles
<dutchfire> so you're a DG veteran then?
<MSTK> I was pretty active in the Civ3 Demogames
<MSTK> before Civ4 came out, at least.
<dutchfire> okay
<MSTK> so from what I can gather in this current game, we're at war with the French?
<dutchfire> Metal Casting for Calendar and 120 gold executed with Julius
<dutchfire> correct, he invaded us, and we beat him up
<MSTK> yeah, as I've read. Things seem to be going well. Don't let me bother you or clutter up the log.
<dutchfire> doesn't matter to me
<dutchfire> pressed enter, kill two axes near Paris in the interturn
<dutchfire> Orleans comes online
<dutchfire> interesting Interturn, buddhism spreads to Orleans, Zoroaster has been born in NotA, Ptolemy in Berlin and JULIUS DECLARES ON BISMARCK
<MSTK> the plot thickens
<dutchfire> I think I'll continue playing for now
<MSTK> Did instructions say to attempt to take Paris?
<dutchfire> yes they did, I'm bombing them now
<dutchfire> but I'm thinking of waiting for a mace or two before attacking the city
<MSTK> How many are on route?
<dutchfire> 0 at the moment, one being built, but there are some horse units coming
<dutchfire> finsih monarchy, no clear orders for next tech
<dutchfire> Munich is captured by the Romans
<dutchfire> Complete Kong Miao (Shrine)
<dutchfire> Kill a French axe near Paris
<dutchfire> it's time to change civics
<dutchfire> started the attack on Paris
<MSTK> Initiated appropriate sacrifices to RNG gods.
<dutchfire> they worked
<dutchfire> a catapult withdrew against all odds, dealing collateral damage
<dutchfire> then a Keshik defeated a spearman with only 29% odds
<MSTK> Hoorah
<dutchfire> killed an axe and an archer too!
<dutchfire> axeman kills archer
<MSTK> Paris is worth a mass, I suppose.
<MSTK> (Sorry, but I've been wanting to use that quote for an eternity now)
<dutchfire> lol
<dutchfire> they've got 3 defenders left, and we've only got 2 attackers, each with <50% chances though
<MSTK> what were the initial numbers?
<dutchfire> I killed 4 defenders
<dutchfire> pillaged coppermine, bring in new troops for final attack next turn
<dutchfire> next turn we'll hopefully capture Paris and a barb city
<dutchfire> captured Ainu
<dutchfire> Keshik dies (he had 80% odds!)
<MSTK> wow
<dutchfire> another Keshik kills an axe
<dutchfire> Cat kills axe
<dutchfire> Cat kills archer
<dutchfire> Paris is ours! (127 gold)
<MSTK> congrats
<MSTK> Was that the last of France?
<dutchfire> no, two cities left, marseilles to our NW, and Tours just south of Paris
<dutchfire> Bismarck asks us to cancel deals with Caesar, I say no
<MSTK> ah, I see Marseilles on the map. Tours was hiding on the tip of the Frenc Peninsula, I guess.
<dutchfire> yes, it is (I haven't seen the city yet though
<MSTK> Would it be beneficial to pick a side in this Roman-Germany War? Or we could just let it sizzle out in the north on its own, hopefully as a war of attrition.
<dutchfire> sizzle out, and perhaps later attack on of them
<dutchfire> start some new builds according to instructions
<MSTK> i think that choice would be left to the masses in the DG. When are you ending the turnchat?
<dutchfire> either when I'm ready to capture Tours to decide if we want to keep it, or when I've played 10 turns
<dutchfire> I'm now in turn 6 btw
<dutchfire> Tours is hardly defended, 1 spear, 1 archer
<MSTK> think we could take it out this turnchat?
<dutchfire> probably
<dutchfire> Ainu comes online, starts granary
<dutchfire> we can take out Tours next turn, at some cost
<MSTK> i don't think that there's much threat of it being retaken.
<dutchfire> Notre Dame has been built in a far away land!
<dutchfire> no, but the question is if Tours is worth the upkeep
<dutchfire> The city has two sea resources, but is basically overlapping Paris
<dutchfire> If I wait another turn, we can probably knock out France for good, I've moved in on Marseilles and Tours
<dutchfire> to keep Tours, to raze Tours, or to end the TC?
<MSTK> To be safe, I think I'd end the TC in favor of getting opinions from the DG
<dutchfire> yeah, I'll do that know
<dutchfire> Keeping it would be stupid IMO, but the DG has a tendency to do stupid, but heroic, things
<dutchfire> Game saved, going to take some screenshots, start some discussions, etc.
* Furiey has joined #turnchat
* Chieftess sets mode: +v Furiey
<Furiey> Hi, turnchat over?
<MSTK> yeah, sorry
<MSTK> just two minutes ago actually
<dutchfire> yeah
<Furiey> Oh well, closest I've got to attending one for a long time
<dutchfire> We're basically ready to kill the last two French cities
<MSTK> haha, tell me about it.
<MSTK> this is the first one i've caught in two years.
<Furiey> too many middle of the night or middle of the day ones for me
<MSTK> Yeah, we've pretty much got French cornered into two cities that we could easily take. It's whether or not they're worth taking that's the main issue.
<dutchfire> If you want I could upload the save now, and you could take a look
<Furiey> he'll always hate us and just cause unhappiness, get risd of them now or a bit later but we'll have to get rid of them at some point
<dutchfire> sure, but should we raze his cities or not, that's the real question
<dutchfire> note: we now have 17% of the worlds land area, with some cities still able to pop their borders several times
<MSTK> This game is pangea? continents?
<dutchfire> Continents (2 continents)
<dutchfire> Bismarck has 12% at the moment
<Furiey> good grief it's nomination time already!
<dutchfire> Go nominate yourself for DP, you'll be able to attend at least 1 chat :D
<Furiey> sorry I have problems with running Civ 4
<Furiey> Warlords cured that problem and introduced another so I can't run that either
<dutchfire> have you tried running it on the lowest graphics settings? (I'm sure you patched it)
<Furiey> Yep and yep, I see floodplains in unexplored ground - it's my graphics card, Warlord I get no text in the menus!
<Furiey> but don't see floodplains
<dutchfire> I see floodplains in unexplored grounds every now and then too, but I don't really mind
<Furiey> all the time for me - too difficult to ignore, plus it crashes fairly regulalry and is very slow
<dutchfire> the first time I started up the game, it crashed on loading the start up screen, so I've come a long way (without upgrading my computer)
<Furiey> so have I, it took me ages to find a way to play it at all, I get the insert corredt CD error (it's a DVD)
<MSTK> well, it's getting late over here in California. I'll catch up later.
<Furiey> bye
<dutchfire> have you tried running windowed mode? (in the config file, set fullscreen to 0)
<dutchfire> bye
<Furiey> yep, I do
<dutchfire> It's still early in Europe :D
<MSTK> it's been nice...attending.
<MSTK> yeah, apparently it was 7am GMT?
<MSTK> i'm still terrible with figuring out time zones
<Furiey> yep, 8am uk time (BST)
<dutchfire> 9 AM central european summer time
<MSTK> heh. one day I'll get the hang of it. Either that or they post time conversions on Turnchat Instructions thread ;)
* MSTK has quit IRC (Quit: Leaving.)
<dutchfire> I'm going to post the save, the summary, this chatlog and my screenshots now
<Furiey> ok, I must go anyway - got to get the dinner ready - family coming
<dutchfire> okay
<Furiey> bye
<dutchfire> bye
* Furiey has quit IRC (Quit: bye!)

END OF TURNCHAT

Our troops are ready to capture Tours (2 Keshiks should do the job), we should decide what to do with it. I'm in favour of razing it, as it's a pretty useless fishing village.
We should also be able to capture Marseilles next turn (with some luck). I think we should keep that city.

Screenshots (a lot of them!) will be posted in the screenshot thread in the citizens subforum.

The save:

Very nice turnchat. I agree with burning Tours, Paris will cover the area itself, giving us access to the fish too. Also, Tours and paris share city Radius. Marseille is a keep though as it provided us with Dye and Ceasar is close-by too.
