An SG game in Warlordovision (latest version).

We must control all copper, iron and aluminium resources in the world.
We have to be selling (for gold only) at least one of the above metal resources to every civ by the end of the game. That's active deals at games end making Diplomacy a bit more fun.
We must NOT wipe out any civilization...they are paying customers after all.

Leader: Shaka
Difficulty: Monarch

Main details for the game can be found here.

If you would take an SG newcomer, I would like to join. Notice I only recently aquired Warlords, but am having no problems handling a Monarch game (unfinished) and have won Emperor Vanilla. But it's ok if you prefer more experienced Warlord players. (I lurked Joe-05, especially the first turnsets - very enjoyable).

Hey frankcor! Good to have you on board...it was you that reminded me of the idea when you started filling in for Cosmichail in JOE-05. It's only right you should be in on it. Hopefully this one will be a more successful experience than the original Oil Cats game.

Lucky1972, I've always been of the opinion that any newcomer deserves a first chance (unless your name is JKaen) so welcome aboard. Are you aware of general SG rules (of thumb) such as 24 hour "got it", 48 hour play and post? I'm glad you enjoyed JOE-05 as well...I think it's my favourite of the ones I've run...maybe second place. My favourite bit was the nightmare huge amount of time it took to get a Great Prophet for the Christian shrine.

Thanks! I think I´ve been lurking for maybe 6 months or so (first SG I followed was acid04, I think), so I think I know the basic rules, but please refer me to any post that might help. Possibly I will need some help with logs and pictures to help write reports, I will try to run some tests on this. I noticed the very next time I played after lurking my level of play jumped amazingly, I can only imagine how much I´ll learn from actualy participating. And, you know, as I read somewhere arround here, sometimes it´s better to be Lucky than good ;) .

And yeah, that shrine strugle was fun!

I've always love to play with players I never play before ... this will definitely qualify (frank is the only exception). So if you don't mind someone exceedingly grumpy, I would like to ask for permission to come on board.

@lucky:

re: pictures > people usually uses imageshack or photobucket to upload pictures, and just use the <img> tag (change the "<>" to "[]"). Personally, I like photobucket better, as it let you organize your screenies into separate folders (presumably for each SG), and you can bulk upload up to 20 images at one go. But it does require you to register (unlike imageshack).

re: log > I use (and judging from Joe's screenshot, he too) Ruff Hi's mod, which include a very excellent autologger. Just don't rely too much on log, most people prefer a humanly (and better yet, humorously) written report.

You're on board GreyFox. I think we've criss-crossed SG's for quite some time but it's quite amazing we've never played together. The closest being the JOE-04 / Chaos 4 fiasco! I like your playing style as well so definately good to have you on board.

@Lucky1972, regarding logs. I'm not sure which screenshot GreyFox is referring to, but the only mod I use is BlueMarble as the terrain is way nicer than the stock terrain. I use the HOF mod for single player games. I always found the Autologger to be a little unreliable and always hand-write notes as I'm playing, taking screenshots as and when needed.

You'll see some player type up their turn reports and put the Autologger text in a spoiler...it's about a thrilling a read as the Oxford English Dictionary so yeah, non automated turn reports are preferred.

Regarding screenshots, again I'm a bit different as I host the pictures on my own web space...this isn't necessarily the best idea as I've noticed I approach my bandwidth limit very close each month...hey-ho. But yeah, most people use Imageshack. I tried it once and hated it, so there you go!

We'll see how your first report is and give you pointers from there I reckon.

VOTING!

Please cast you votes for the level of play.

JesusOnEez votes Prince, 'cos he's a scaredy girl.
GreyFox votes Monarch, 'cos he's a double-hard b&#37;$&*d.
frankcor needs to vote!
Lucky1972 needs to vote!
Reserved needs to vote!

Also, discussion on the leader we could use. I'm tempted to say Augustus or Caeser for the Praets, but then I'm thinking late wars will be tougher and a late UU may be better, so America comes to mind for non-penalised attacks from boats as well as ground forces. Perhaps a civ with low maintenance costs as cities will be spread far and wide...other than that, suggest away.

@Joe: Ah, sorry, I confused mice's report as yours in JOE-05, hence I thought your are using RuffHI's Cobbled Mod as well. My mistake. A pity about Joe04 ... I was looking forward to playing with Sid Meier ;)

Difficulty -- I think Monarch is doable.

Map -- Balance might be a good idea, as it would spread Cu/Fe/Al (is uranium a metal?) around giving us a better challenge. Otherwise, fractal and high sea is fine with me.

Leader -- I don't really care, but for the sake of discussion, I submit the following candidates: Shaka (Agg/Exp), Stalin (Agg/Ind), Augustus (Cre/Org). Pity there is no more Agg/Org leader, it will fit nicely.

is uranium a metal?

Yes. I'd not thought of that (or Aluminium for that matter). It'll make the latter game even more interesting. I'll alter the initial blurb to reflect this.

I think the biggest issue we'll have is not getting Domination before we have all the resources...I see a lot of city razing in the mid/late game.

Thanks!

Actually, chemically speaking, Au and Ag are metals as well .... :crazyeye:

lurker's comment:
Well, Silicon is a metalloid chemically speaking, does that count? Do you have to control all desert tiles as well? :mischief:

:run:

Lurkers comment: Drop the uranium but insert gold and silver. And make sure everything has a railroad on it (more metal on metal) and every city needs a forge to work the metals (and an engineer assigned as a smith). Maybe even more things to think about that you might need all metal based wonders like colussus, ironworks, eifel tower, Statue of liberty, space elevator, etc... Ok maybe going overboard with these suggestions. :p

Wish I had more time but work is killing me right now because I really want to participate sometimes in one of these SG's. You guys are great to keep me entertained when I need a little break from work ;)

OK. It seems to me we need to decide which metals we need to control. As king of the SG, I have decided we have the following choices;

1. Original idea of copper and iron only
2. ALL metals, which include the above plus gold, silver, uranium (ish) and aluminium (any more?)
3. All metals that are obviously metals, like the above minus uranium
4. Copper, iron and aluminium as the most obvious industrial metals

Make your choice! I'm keeping mine secret...

Lurkers can also vote!!! Voting closes in 36 hours from the time of this post. If it's a tie, the option will be chosen at random from the tied options.

lurker's comment:
My vote:
5) Industrious Metals only (Copper, Iron, and Aluminum), PLUS you have to build Rock 'n' Roll (for Heavy Metal)
