Captain’s Personal Logs
March 13th 1940

We’ve just returned home after what can only be described as the most perfect patrol. In just a week we managed to come across several lone freighters, amounting to just less than 40’000 tonnes sunk. We also ran into a convoy, which resulted in our getting rammed by a destroyer - some last minute manoeuvring meant we survived, but Chief Nonconformist is complaining about the damage to the conning tower. He only just repaired it from our previous patrol, where it was smashed in an air attack.

Secretly, I think he enjoys the work. Especially the complaining rights it gives him.

Sadly, the early return to port has given me a massive amount of paperwork. Apparently being among the U-Boat aces means my crew is in high demand, and I’m losing most of my senior staff. My Exec is heading off for commander school, which is one hell of a blow, but I’m told that his replacement - a Mister Raisin Bran - shows exceptional promise for someone straight out of U-Boat School. Apparently a bit too eager for the hunt though, it remains to be seen if that’s good or bad.

Regardless, the new personnel will find that U-45 is a good ship, and apparently holds great luck for those who crew her. I predict that the good times are just beginning, and we will be looking at Britain’s starvation by the end of the year…

Game Outline
This is a Silent Hunter III AAR with the Grey Wolves expansion installed. Like my previous AAR's, it's designed to be interactive, so posters may 'join' the crew of the U-Boat, and participate in the story as I write it.

Notes on immortality: Officers and Crew shall be immortal until the beginning of 1942, the U-Boat and Commander until 1943.

Woohoo! Great start as always Kan'

Now dow to buisness!, What is our first objective now Mr Commander?

Yours is to get acquainted with the crew and remember that you're their 'go to guy.'

Mine is to get rid of half of my veteran crew that I've been training since the beginning of the war

Hello, I'd like to apply for a post as an officer of any sorts, provided I get to do something cool and violent.

Ballast tanks trimmed and the boat is duly balanced, Herr Kaleun :salute:

The pleasure is mine, Chief.

Currently you're Leutnant Z.S, with Iron Cross 1st and 2nd Class. You remain the only officer of my original crew, as I'm replacing the rest with green officers.

I'm sure I can find something for you :D

It is an honour, Herr Kaleun.
I assume we shall be sailing the NordAtlantik, so I have taken the liberty of taking on ample supplies of oilskins for the watch.

I'd like to sign on your crew as well Herr Kapitan.

Ahoi!
I have the second chronograph right here. It includes a stopwatch, a calender, and some features i haven't figured out yet.

Mein Captain, I would like a post with intellegnce. Every bit of information we get pleases the Fürher!

Weapons Officer reporting sir. Torpedo tubes I and II are set to magnetic detonators while III and IV have been set for impact detonation.

You can sink a C2 Cargo Ship with one impact torpedo if you hit it right in the middle.

If we're sailing to the stormy north atlantic I suggest a plentiful supply of seasickness pills. Not that I need them personally. I will get us through the channel if you really want to go that route. I wouldn't advice however, but it's your call Herr Kaleun.

Indeed, but I prefer two torps - Grey Wolves seems to make ship sinking times a lot slower, even without the option selected in the realism settings. Sometimes we won't have the time to wait for a kill.

I have, however, full faith that we will have a top-notch torpedo room under your watch.

I tried it once earlier in the war, don't think I'll be doing it again. If the Brits get just one hint of your presence, they'll make every effort to find you.

And in force: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=5532847&postcount=349

I suggest we go northwards, up around Scotland, Herr Kalun, but of course the deision is that of the Navigator's to make.

could I be "translation" officer? :mischief:

Spoiler :
As in getting info out of british prisoners

Strictly no prisoners are to be taken, unless they are proven to be high ranking British officers with classified information.
A U-boat is much to small for such insignificant work.

*grumbles* fine i'll be cook or something *tries to remember Up Periscope*
