If you had a Million Dollars, and spent it solely on yourself, what would you do with it?
I would buy a Big chunk of land bordering designated national wilderness. Preferably the bordering private lands would be a Native American reservation. This land would have a year round river on it and it would be in a local such as I could experience all four seasons of the year. I would buy as much land as would buy me the illusion of living in the wilderness. Land would be my sole luxury (well almost). The tools to work that land to preserve my independence would then be my next priority. Then a trust fund to pay my land taxes till my death. Then a trust fund to help cover the medical expenses of my old age. Then I would establish my various business endeavors which would provide for me the things I cannot provide for myself. Much of the tools I would need to develope my homestead would in turn allow me to gain a living off the surrounding land and its people (Portable Sawmill, DryKiln, Backhoe, 2 Ton 1950's truck etc.) But to be well rounded and be able to trust in making ends meet I would invest further in my art and all that which would allow me to market it. I would invest in remote Radio and Internet hardware but would forgo television without a second thought.
Once those needs were covered if I had any left over I would then buy a couple bars of Gold. Just cuz I always wanted a couple bars of gold. Seems better than a bank deposit sometimes. After that... I don't rightly know. Beyond the normal things one needs for a humble modern live, I suppose it would be spent on a better bed. A hot tub and a Finnish steam bath (sauna). Perhaps a couple nice rugs to cover the hardwood floor in my reading room. I would likely invest in some good reading material though it would be on the cheap like most of my acquisitions. I would build most of my own furniture but I would want a couple nice leather chairs and sofa. Though that would take second fiddle to all else. After that.... I suppose I'd bank it if there was anything left.
