Francisco Franco LH

Well, I've been lurking around the forums for a while now. A few days ago I decided I would take a shot at making a leaderhead skin to try and introduce myself to Civ4 modding and see if I could go anywhere with it. So I decided to make Francisco Franco, since I figured he'd be easy to do just to help me get accustomed to it. I've done skins for other games before, so I have some experience, but even then, the LH isn't perfect... but I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.



As you can see I used the Napoleon model as a base. I tried to give him Stalin's animations, since I figured the salute would be more "Franco-ish", but that didn't turn out too well... so the Napoleon animations will have to do, I'm afraid.

Here are the reference pics I used to make the skin... the skin isn't 100% super-historically accurate right down to the last detail, but I think I got it pretty close:

Tell me what you think. I may try to make some other WWII-era LHs too, since that's one area in history I'm really interested in. Not saying I might not try some other leaders from other points in history though...

From the 2 screenshots you offered as a comparison I think the only suggestions I would have would be to shorten his mustache and salt and pepper his hair some. Since I've never skinned a LH I don't know how easy the 'stache will be to change. Good job so far.

however, i must note that he looks very resembling to the Hitler leaderhead done somewhere else, so i think maybe somehow he shouold be made a bit more unique...

The Hitler thing is true, but the fact of the matter is that the two men aren't all that dissimilar either, and Napoleon is the best base for each of them. The uniform similarity is another unavoidable aspect as most 20th century military uniforms bear a striking resemblance to each other. Messing with the mustache though, and possibly altering the hair color to make Franco appear older would help set him apart though. All in all, this is excellent work. I do hope you make more.

Thanks for the comments guys. I will agree that this skin looks quite a bit like the Hitler skin (I know which one you're talking about), but the main reason for that, I think, is because they're both using the Napoleon model. But also, as Vrenir said, they're not entirely that different from each other anyway. I'll mess with the mustache though... I didn't want to make it too short, because I knew that if I shortened it too much, he'd just end up looking even more like Hitler with the little mustache. But I'll see what I can do. I'll put some gray patches in the hair too, to make it a little older looking. I was going for a more younger-looking Franco, but making him look older would probably set him apart from Hitler, as you said. I was thinking of even trying to make that fur coat you see in the second reference pic I posted. I could probably get away with using Peter's fur sash thing reskinned and repositioned to look like a coat draped over his shoulders. That would probably help setting him apart from Hitler even more. What do you guys think?

Which leader do you guys think I should try next? I was thinking of trying to take a swing at Mussolini or something. Maybe even taking a shot at my own Hitler skin. Then again, I might try something totally different... like Lenin (the Churchill model would work quite well, methinks) or someone. I figure the more skins I make, the better I get at it. And once I'm good enough with leaderheads, maybe then I can take a shot at making my own civs and stuff too.

I think what you have done so far is great, better than what I can do.

I do think though his face looks too much like a cross between napoleon and hitler. I don't know how but you may want to try personalizing his face.

Do you really want leaderhead requests? That's a big opening for people, especially since your first demonstrates a nice desire for historic accuracy. Here are five suggestions though, which I hope have broad appeal; there are plenty more if you like.

Charles de Gaul - French (based off of FDR perhaps?)
Nasser - Arabs
Ataturk - Ottomans
Nelson Mandella - Zulu (based off of Sid perhaps?)
Robert the Bruce - Celts

Instead, how about Selassie for Ethiopia. I think that he could be based off Alexander with a skin tone change, a painted-on beard, removal of the paudrons and wreath, and some heavy retexturing of the breastplate into a military uniform.

I think he was wanting to do WW2 leaders first.

Mussolini would be a good choice. There aren't any good LHs of him so far as I know but there are ones for the other two Axis powers.

Seems to me that Napoleon without the hair would actually be a pretty good Mussolini

I think he's being a bit overused however (all for the fascist boys.. hmm)



Especially that scowl... the Napoleon has a very similar scowl.

Franco used the roman salute, as does augustus, would his animations fit?

That's a really beautiful LH. I can see many similiarities with the Hitler leaderheads that are around but it's not like those two looked that much different from each other in real life. At least considering what material we have available, one can't improve Franco without giving something away at the same time.
