Slated for a spring 2008 release for next generation consoles and handhelds, Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution is being developed by Firaxis Games.

"Civilization Revolution is the game I've always wanted to make!" said Sid Meier, Director of Creative Development at Firaxis Games. "We are excited to take advantage of the power of next generation consoles and the ingenuity of handhelds, to create a great and unique strategy game for newcomers to the series, as well as the millions of fans around the world who enjoy Civilization on the PC."

It will have sixteen civilizations available for play and is capable of online multiplayer mode. In addition, auto-matching, ranked games, leaderboards, achievements, downloadable extra content and integrated video and voice chat will make the online play more versatile and fun than any previous version of Civilization and will allow players to see where they stand against the competition. Finally, the position of ruler of the world can be settled online.

A nice trailer for the game can be found at CivilizationRevolution.com. Be sure to check it out!

EDIT: We have created a section in the gallery for Civilization Revolution!

I don't really understand, are they saying that its going to be Civ V or are they just saying it's Civ IV on a console?
Also, what does "next generation consoles" mean? Are they going to make Civ it's own console? Or is it going to be on the Wii or something?

This appears to essentially be the console version of Civ IV. It's too soon for Civ V PC.

I'm not entirely certain either, but I believe it's going to be CivIV on one of those handheld games you see kids running around with. I only play PC games, so I'm not entirely sure about handheld game devices.

Same, it's probably on the "Nintendo DS". I've seen people playing with that (its a gameboy and you've got the pen and the screen and everything). Not all that thrilling...to me...

I believe this means they will be making Civilization for the Nintendo DS, PSP, X box 360, Wii, and PS 3. I am not sure which ones, but it wouldn't be too much more work to put it on all the consoles(Wii, PS 3, X box 360) they just need to "mod" some of the controls and maybe graphics.

I was thinking about getting a Wii but if this is not coming out for the Wii I might get whatever it is going to be on.

Also if you don't know what these consoles are the Wii, PS 2, and X bow 360 all connect to the TV and are played with controllers where the Nintendo DS and PSP are hand held systems.

Didn't Sid Meier just say good things about the PS3? That should be a hint.

From what I read (and I read it 3 times) I belive it will be a game for psp or the DS probably not a exact port, but probably not a totaly watered down version of Civ 4 I reckon.

Then agian with the wide variety of games Cid has comeout with I wouldn't be suprised if it was a game centered around revolutions themselves ....in some way or another anyhow.

I assume it will be for the Wii, mostly becuase the title is Revolution. The article also said handhelds so it will probably be for both the DS and PSP.

I'm not entirely certain either, but I believe it's going to be CivIV on one of those handheld games you see kids running around with. I only play PC games, so I'm not entirely sure about handheld game devices.

I believe you are right and that this is a (probably slimmed down) game for multipayers, so I'm not interested. Why should I be, when I'm waiting for BtS?

From the way I interpreted it, this is going to be its own thing (kind of like how Call to Power was), and not a port of Civ4 but not the official Civ5 either.

Some of the key features that will resonate with fans of strategy games and the Civilization franchise include 16 civilizations to master and lead to victory, an array of famous historical leaders to play as or compete against, and accessible maps and streamlined time scale for quicker games, intense combat, and constant action.

Intense combat? Constant action? Streamlined time scale? Please tell me this isn't going to be Civilization: The RTS.

Hmmm, Next gen consoles means: Xbox360, PS3 and possibly Wii.

Dead give aways:
