Jimmyh,

What exactly is this were looking at? Is it a crossbowman? Could you provide a little history to this unit for those of us who have not played AoK or AoE so we know how to fit into Civ III?

Thanks

The Chinese had the crossbow way before everyone else, it being commonly used in all armies by at least 200 BC. There's some evidence the Romans used it a bit, but it was forgotten with the Dark Ages. Whereas the Chinese keep using them, and thus had better and more refined crossbows when the rest of the world picked up on the idea again after 1000 AD.

In my opinion, this should clearly be the Chinese UU, and a regular Crossbowman should be a must have general unit - an upgrade from the Archer.

And to add to that, the crossbow used for this unit is a rapid firing crossbow. It had a magazine of bolts and was designed in such a way that firing the crossbow and pulling the 'string' back would nock another bolt for firing. Result? Lots of bolts firing VERY quickly.

Hmmm... seems interesting, good job! :)
