Well, I'm a little confused about my new Corporation (Mining Inc.). Every time I found it in a new city, it gives some more hammer, but the loss of gold every round by the city is disastrous. Example: first city were I found the Corp. gets 10 hammers, looses 20 gold a round. And does "consumes iron" mean, I will loose the iron (in the city/overall)?

you loose alot of gold because the maitenance cost for any corp is very high, as for the resorce I think you physically keep the resourse (stays on the map) but it can't be used for building units or trade, but I don't have the game yet so I'm just basing this on what I've read in the forums

you can cut the maintenance by having a courthouse(-50%) and being in the right civic(-25%) and you can compensate the remaining maintenance with the corp HQ that give you 5 :gold: with the right buildings (+100%) and with wallstreet (+100%)

the ressources is still available for building unit and you can still use it for trade but it will reduce the bonus of the corp (and the maintenance)

Well, I owe a couthouse, the Wallstreet, but I have Emancipation as civic. Maybe that's it.
As I understood the Manual and the civpedia, I thought the maintanance is only calculated by the cities which don't have the corporation.
So what about foreign cities in which I install my corporation? Do they spent money to me after it?

Yes "consume" doesn't mean the corporation makes a resource disappear, you can still do anything with it. Also keep in mind that the more of a given resource (e.g. Fish in the case of Sid's Sushi) the bigger the effects of the corporation branch.

So to get the full benefit of the corporation:
1: Make sure you control as many instances of the resources the corporation consumes as possible.
2: Have courthouses (-50% maintenance)
3: Run Free Market (-25% corp maintenance)
4: Make sure that you own the HQ, in a city with a market, grocer, bank and if possible Wall Street.

You must be clever with your corporations. Balance the number of branches within your own empire against branches in foreign empires.

Every branch costs maintainance in the city it's spread to. But every branch also earns the founding city gold. So putting branches in other empires, makes you rich. However, these foreign branches grant their cities the corporation's bonus.

It's all about weighing pros and cons -- money vs. bonus.

I love corporations. They made me very rich in my first game.

It doesn't matter whether you run Emancipation. It's the choice between State Property (no Corps), Mercantilism (no foreign corps) or Free Market (-25% corp maintenance) that matters.

So what about foreign cities in which I install my corporation? Do they spent money to me after it?

Your HQ gets you 5 :gold: per turn per branch (which banks etc. can increase), whether that's in one of your own cities or a foreign one doesn't matter. You just don't pay the maintenance for the foreign ones, your rival does. ;)

remember the maintenance is function of the population (easy to spot when you click on a corp in the corp screen you will see that the greater cities have a highest maintenance) and of the number of ressources (trade some ressources if you have real problem with your money)

Yes, I had some fun with that. Here's my findings :

In my last game I had Mining, Sushi and Jewels.

What I did with my Civilization :

Put Mining in Cities I wanted high Productions only (Because of Maintenance).

Put Sushi pretty much everyone of my cities. At first I actually made a profit due to Courthouse, and Wallstree in the Corporations HQ. I lated used the UN to force everyone to switch to Enviromentalism, because I wanted to be able to spread my corporations everywhere. After that Sushi cost me money. Still ok, considering the food it gave.

Jewels ended up in every City I didn't put Mining. With Bank + Market + Grocer Jewels actually produced a tidy profit plus lots of culture, even under Enviromentalism.

Other Civilizations :

-Traded for the appropiate Ressourced with the far-away Civs. Made sure that the closer ones still had at least one Ressource for each Corporation. Then I had my corporations spread there, to get money. Since I hit every little town with two corporations it must have really hurt their economy. Several AI's tried to foil my plan, by switching to Mercantilism or State Property. That's why I had the UN pass Enviromentalism. Made the Maintenance cost for the AI extra high. :goodjob:

Here's a screenshot of my Capital. As you can see I just founded Aluminium, but didn't spread it yet.

1500 gold every turn !? isnt that a bit OP ?

Don't forget my other cities are paying for most of it through maintenance ;)
(And also my neighbouring civs, but mostly it was domestic money. Hadn't figured out the corps properly yet)
The second most wealthy city was 92 (and then 84, 58, 48, etc.). Oh, and it was 1479 (not 1500) gold to be exact.

and there is not only 3 corps HQ but also the holy city of one religion and the "normal" building for a future tech city...

all the building that gather gold (bank, grocer,...) as this is one of your greatest city and you have the future tech level...

also, exploiuting the happiness resources and having happiness resource consuming corporations can free you of having to spend money on culture in the slider.

My, I don't have BTS yet but from what I've read about it, it seems that city would be especially prosperous if it was on the coast (+ harbours and custom houses) :D.

I have a question about something in a civilopedia screenshot I saw concerning competing corporations (ie. Sid's Sushi vs. Cereal Mills).

What does the presence of competition really do?

Prevents those corporations from being in the same city
