Used so many nukes I split the earths core..wait..wut?

I just got done playing, and losing a game because of this. I'm not sure if it's a new random event feature or not. I started heavily using nukes and got a warning about how scientists thought the earths crust was like an eggshell and continued use of nukes might split the earths core. Whatever I thought, I had never seen this before and just ignored it.

Fast forward about 20 nukes later and I suddenly get a message saying I had been warned but had finally used so many nukes that I split the earths core open, losing the game. The barbarians were declared the winner.

Anyone run into this? It was surprising despite the warning from the scientists.

Edit: It's been confirmed that this only takes place if you play using the Next War MOD. So vanilla civ players have nothing to fear. Still, if you're playing next war..use those nukes wisely!

Sounds fun, hopefully it's random and doesn't always happen, nukes are there to be used!
 
Could it be an easter egg referring to the movie Core? Where some super weapon destabilizes the core and bad things happen (like Rome being destroyed...)

Never saw the movie, thank goodness, from what I heard.

Haha, so does this make me the first civ'er to split the earths core in half and lose a game in the process? heh.

LAWL! That is freakin priceless. If I were losing the game, I would start flinging nukes everywhere just to drag everyone to hell with me.:evil:
 
If they put this as a permanent feature I'm going to head over to Firaxis with an axe and go on a heinous murder/rape spree.
 
Never used nukes myself (always get the UN decision before anyone can make them), but this sounds like something I must try out some day! :D
 
SWEET. This'll be the first thing I do when I get my own BtS. Also the first time I TRY to lose on a new game right away :lol: :lol:

Sweet! I see it as a nod to the old Chris Crawford game Balance of Power (which Sid mentioned as having inspired him to create the original Civ). In that game you fight a superpower cold war, and every confrontation was a game of chicken -- one side had to back down, or the risk of accidental war would increase with the tensions, until it got to defcon1 (intentional nuclear war). A black screen then came up and said (among other things) 'Everyone Loses."
 
I hope they keep this one in game sounds like a lot of fun.
But it should only activate when you nuke the same place over and over again.

Hope it is turned off in multiplayer due to poor losers exploiting it.
