my game keeps crashing
what the heck is the problem..this is what i hate about computer games...civilization 4 worked absolutely fine and i never had any problems...now this garbage...
i double-click to start the game, the screen turns black to startup, i hear the initial advertisement, and it crashes...every single time...can it be the cd? |

I have an hp dv9000, and had a similar problem. It turns out it is likely a problem between the new Civ4 BtS movies (all of them -- wonder, intro, etc) and the nVidia graphics card. Here is how you fix the problem:
1) Edit Civilization4.ini in My Documents\My Games\Beyond the Sword\ with your favorite text editor: About 1/3 of the way, down, edit this line to say the following: NoIntroMovie = 1 Now, you should be able to start Civ4... but it will crash if you build a wonder because it is trying to play the wonder movie. 2) In the Options, disable all in-game movies (Wonder, etc). There is an option for this in the profile setup. I also believe you can change this option once you start a game. Hopefully this will fix the problem for you. I really hope Firaxis patches this, and the Poison/Foment bug on slower-paced game speeds. Otherwise, BtS is AWESOME!!!!! Sam |
