Usa Middle Age Units

Very nice! But I agree with GeoModder, the flag on the shields seems a bit much..

Perhaps just use a circle of stars on a blue field just like the flag looked during the American Revolution? In any case, it looks very interesting.. And 'what if' units are definitely a much needed / desired development..

I think the main issue with the flag is that, on the scale of these units, it's a bit busy... all of the stripes and stars makes it almost dizzying to look at.

Contrast this with good ol' Captain America who has an outfit that gives us very much the "feel" of the American flag without the flag literally displayed, and I think that works pretty well.

EDIT:

The Great Seal or a simplified version could serve well somewhere on some of the costumes. The eagle is not really something distinctly American and is found on a lot of European heraldry (and a number of European units already made here), so perhaps we want to shy away from it for that reason, but it's something to consider.

For ancient era units, I think that we need to go furrier! Something along the lines of the great American Mountain Man... a Davey Crockett with his quintessential coonskin cap might be interesting...

I've whipped up a possible alternative that I think might work rather well on a square or kite shield.

Awesome I love What-if units! Now we have some for the good US-of-A. If the US had been an empire in times of old this is what their units would have looked like lol. Thanks for making them!
Hehe... the Shield with the flag... well, I have no problem with it... wanna talk about busy? How about three lions or the double-headed eagle shields that were common in the middle ages? I see no reason to say if there were a "Medieval America" back then that such a shield wouldn't have existed... still kinda funny to think of a Medieval America in the 1st place, but who-knows!

While medieval heraldry was often ornate and very complicated, it's usually simplified in many games for the sake of clarity. But I understand what you're saying though.

cool stuff, though I'm kinda sad it doesn't have a more greco-roman feel to it, since it those kind of soldiers that decorate all our monuments, and not medieval style ones.

I don't remember the flag raisers of Iwo Jima sporting togos in their memorial.

I think what he means to say is that Americans have taken a lot more inspiration from Roman and Greek civilization than medieval civilization. This is partly due to the fact that America's formative years were during a resurgence of interest in ancient Roman and Greek culture.

Well they don't call the Middle Ages the "Dark Ages" for nothin you know! Most European civilizations pander to the Ancient times over the Dark Ages for a reason.

It's called Neoclassicism. Everywhere in Europe are those kind of monuments dated about 1700-1900, it's not just american ;)

The Dark Ages are only a part of the Middle Ages.

Yes, that's very true, but those years were America's formative years whereas the countries of Europe had already been formed by that point... even the ones that were being ruled by other governments. The Founding Fathers and influential leaders like Andrew Jackson and Abraham Lincoln lived during this time period, so at least part of the mold out of which the country was created was Neoclassicism. That was my point.

HEY, PEOPLE. AMERICANS. Its just a MEDIVIAL UNITS. AND - you say that USA flag on the shield is a bad idea (I dont know why) but its alright if the pants are made of it.
