So I have been playing this great game of Rhye's and Fall for BtS for the past few days.
I played as the Babylonians to start to keep me entertained until my real intent, the Germans came into existence. The whole game as the Babylonians I was basically trying to stay alive. Between Barbarians/Independent States early on and Persia later. I was constantly on the losing end of a war. My capital fell to a much superior Persian army and it was looking like I was not going to be able to make it until the Germans appeared.
But just as the Persian troops closed in on my last city I was able to switch.
As the Germans I tried to fill what space I could as quickly as possible. I found my self bordered by a very strong Rome to the south. I had a good 6 cities only to have one of my best taken away by the Dutch when they appeared (The Dutch are a new since the last Rhye's I played). I basically tried to go for good infrastructure in my cities, trading techs to catch up to Rome which had a large lead. Rome carried out a successful war France and took over their territory, making them even stronger. Then the Vikings came down from the North and carried out a successful surprise attack on me. I had to change all my cities over to military to hold them back. The captured two of my five cities before I was able to gain the upper hand and push them out. But they still would not make peace. So I have to build a galley and cross over and take one of their cities. They finally agreed for peace with the return of their city. Which I happily agreed to as I was nearing Industrialization which I was hoping would be my time to shine. Which, thanks to Assembly plants, it was. I was able to industrialize quickly and picked up my old city from the Dutch and eventually Paris thanks to culture and a war between Rome vs Spain and the Dutch. And England kept the Vikings busy.
I did not spend time exploring or setting up colonies, instead I traded maps. I found that it was not in fact Rome at the top it was the Mongols who had conquered all of China. I found my self somewhere in the middle ranked around 8 or so. And just I was hoping to begin to climb up some Russia declared war on me. But this was ok because I had just acquired the technology for infantry, even by-passing Riflemen to go for it. I was able to churn Infantry out of my factories and push them out. Pushing in to their territory I found what a challenge it is to over come the "Russian winters" that slowly hurt my troops in their territory. I took one of there cities and decided just to hold it until they agreed for peace and not push on. In this time I realized that I was still far behind the leaders and would have little chance of winning this game. After several turns they finally settled for peace. And just as I was starting to bring troops home I looked to my north and saw the Vikings had collapsed! What a great opportunity! I was able to sweep in with my troops and take their lightly defended independent states. And as I was finishing up this conquest I looked to my south and Rome had collapsed too! this was too perfect. I was able to quickly gobble up basically all of continental Europe! I quickly switched my new cities to work on infrastructure and set my core to "Research" as I pulled into the #3 position behind the #1 Mongols and #2 Portugal with a large set of colonies. Both of whom had already started work on their space ships. I lacked even Rocketry to start on the Apollo program. But I soon had it and pulled past Portugal as I began work on my own space ship. I found others unwilling to trade techs, So I went first for Fission at the end of the tech tree to start on the longest to build pieces.
The year is now 2014 and I just may be able to pull out a serious underdog space race win but then... It crashes!!
I need to know the end! can anyone figure out what is wrong?! Why can't I play past 2014?
Any help would be much appreciated.
