3.03 patch -- weird combat graphics?

Ever since I loaded the 3.03 patch, I've noticed that some of the combat graphics in the game have become a little weird:

1.) Paratroopers, when deployed, no longer have the parachute open up, but rather they engage in the "endless running" thing for a few seconds (presumably the amount of time that the other graphic lasted.)

2.) Combat animation doesn't work properly. When an infantry attacks, for instance, a longbowman, the longbowman's first salvo will appear to kill two infantry, then during combat, the second infantryman will magically re-appear and kill the longbowman. Also, I don't see any of the longbowman's 'troops' die at all, even though the infantry wins the battle.

3.) I am using Solver's latest patch.

Is anyone else experiencing similar issues? It doesn't break the game, but it's a little annoying.

After I loaded the patch, I've seen this too, so has my nephew.

We were playing a multi player game last night and notice that units would die only to pop back up again and keep shooting.

You couldn't really figure out who won unless you looked at the text message.

I hope they fix this one soon.

P.S. I'm not using Solvers patch.

I just had the same thing happen, where combat animation would have units dying who should've lived, then respawning and then winning combat. It seems the battle outcome is calculated properly, but the animation doesn't proceed properly.

Yeah I see this very frequently since patch 3.03...Just as described. The unit looks like it dies, then it stand back up and continues to fight. As far as I can tell it doesn't affect the outcome, but it is disconcerting. I ahve also notcied that during the battle surviving units are often not displayed, so if the AI is attacking my city it will appear that my city is empty after he kills one unit before he starts attacking the next unit in my stack.

Same problems here.
I wish I hadn't download this patch, now i have to go to the effort of getting rid of it.
This is so annoying, especially for a patch that doesn't actually fix any gameplay bugs.

Well actually 3.03 does seem to have addressed whatever issue was causing my friends computer to crash during gameplay. He was starting to crash like every 5 turns or so, but hasn't crashed since the patch came out. I, like you never had a problem until this patch came out though. I have no idea what the difference was between my friends setup and mine though.

Same here, after patch 3.03, combat animations on the whole do not proceed in any way connected to the combat. It is rather annoying, I've just turned combat animations off for now.

I have had all my 3 soldiers in one unit destroyed, and a battle still being fought with my invisible units. I won that battle. I've also had soldiers remaining in a unit just before the end of battle, even though the unit lost the battle.

I've encountered the "invisible units" syndrome before even BtS in Vanilla Civ; I'd attack another stack of units and they'd shoot and fall down like they were attacking something, but my units were invisible and silent. If they won the battle they'd come zipping down from the top left of the screen like they'd had a coffee break in heaven, if they lost it made no difference, they'd still zip down from heaven.

In BtS 3.02 I experienced "repeater rifle syndrome" where my musket men, rifle men, trebuchets, archers, cossacks and anything else that uses a ranged attack would fire about 3 to 5 times in a second and not kill anything! You could put two rifle men with 2 strength each up against each other and it'd take about 20 seconds for one or the other to die. I'm not sure if that's still around in 3.03, but it was ridiculous none the less.

Now I installed 3.03, I'm the English and my Redcoats, when the city adviser tells me I've built something and asks me what to build next, set up ranks and then brace themselves like they've been hit by an invisible cannon, none of them die, and then they file back into their fortified position.

Fast forward 50 years into the future where I have infantry and my neighbors have fighter planes. Now when the city adviser pops up my infantry get dive bombed by my neighbors' fighters. My infantry file ranks and when the fighter passes over their heads they brace themselves, like before, as if they had been hit by the plane that flew over. It's very peculiar.

Yeah has happened to me before, but only rarely. This is happening much more consistently - in almost every battle. I think all the battle animations are broken, just some look worse than others.

v3.03 definately dorks-up the combat animations... results of animation do not reflect actual results, "dead soldiers" reanimate and come back to life to fight you again and again.

This patch completely messed-up all my combat animations when they worked just fine before... it was so annoying, and I saw no other benefit to the patch, that I uninstalled BtS (not Civ4) and reinstalled BtS sans-3.03 patch... now everything is working again (including combat animations).

No v3.03 patch for me please... it fixes nothing I can notice and only serves to break the combat animations.

A little animation sc*** up that made me chuckle: I had a chariot attack a barbarian archer. Chariot 1 charged archer 1 and knocked him to the ground, dead. Chariot 1 moves on to archer 2, but archer 1's "ghost" fires an arrow and kills chariot 2. Chariot 1 proceeds to kill both archer 2 and 3, with one swipe of his sword. After that, chariot 1 moves onto archer 1's ghost, and has an epic battle with an invisible archer, which chariot 1 defeats.

Crazy, I may just keep patch 3.03 for the giggles. And by "ghost", I mean that the archer was invisible. All I saw was an arrow fly out of nowhere.

Yes, I experience all these things consistently since applying the patch. What I miss the most, however, is that the dying animation for units killed by ranged attacks doesn't seem to work. At the most, you'll see the "arrow stuck in body" graphic and then the killed unit just disappears! I want to hear the groan of defeated soldiers and see their armor clatter thunderously about them ...

Add another to the list encountering this problem. Even watched a "dead" warrior draged along with his grouping when they moved (appeared as they moved, disappeared when they stopped)

My game was running perfectly fine until i installed 3.03.
the combat animation is really annoying, particularly when I have my tanks blowing longbowman away. They die and then resurrect quite often.
Is there a way to peel off the 3.03 patch without uninstalling (i don't want to lose my saves)

Same problems here.
I wish I hadn't download this patch, now i have to go to the effort of getting rid of it.
This is so annoying, especially for a patch that doesn't actually fix any gameplay bugs.

3.02 was a pian as well. I had to uninstall BtS as well, but the patch is removed none the less.

You know, I've actually had troops run away from battles when they take place. Is that supposed to happen?

I'm having this problem too. Units appearing to die and resurrect randomly during combat and paratroopers that run on the spot instead of parachuting. I'm finding it quite annoying to be honest. I hadn't played the game before patching to 3.03 (only been playing LAN multiplayer - every time I went to play I'd get the message "new patch available for download") so I don't know if it's 3.03 - I guess it is though judging by everyone else's comments. Both my brother and I get these bugs. I hope this is fixed in the next patch soon.

I'll add my voice to the ones who say that 3.03 is suffering from some combat related graphical bugs. Since I had already seen this thread, I only encountered one of these graphical bugs before I went back to version 3.02. In my case, it was the resurrected soldier during a battle.
