Ok thanks to the hard work of both Genghis Kia and Lt Bod, I have been able to get the Giant Map to work with 34 Set Civilizations.

Here is a link to the original thread from Genghis Kia.... Original Giant Earth Map

I have done only a few modifications to terrain but I have adjusted the resources significantly by first toning them down and secondary to make some game play and balance concessions.

There are two versions of this map, one has 34 set Civilizations in set mostly traditional starting locations. Civ's not in their traditional locations are Portugal which is in Brazil, the Dutch who are in Indonesia and the HRE have been moved over to Eastern Europe. The next 2 are in very non-tradition locations and were put there to help balance out the map. First is Sumeria who is in Southern India and the Celts who are in SE Australia.

The Second map has 34 Civ's but they are not set. There are the same 34 starting locations that the Set Map has so this map provides for some very interesting Alternate World Histories.

First thing you will need to do is to get and install Lt. Bobs [BTS] 40 Civ Mod from here..... Lt. Bobs [BTS] 40 Civ Mod.

Download the Mod file and extract it to the following path:

"My Documents\My Games\Beyond the Sword\Mods\"

or

"C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Beyond the Sword\Mods\" (This path should always work, but the exact name would be different depending on how you installed your game.)

Then you will need to Download the Map file and extract it to the following path:

"My Documents\My Games\Beyond the Sword\PublicMap"

After you placed the folders in the above paths. Start your game normally. Then click "Advanced" in the menu, click "Load a mod" and select "40 Civ" . The game will restart but with the mod this time.

Then if you want to play the Set Civ version then go to "Single player", "play a scenario" and pick the GK_GaintEarthMap_40SetCiv. Then choose your Civ and have Fun!!!!

If you want to play the random civ map then go to "Single player", "play Custom Scenario", at this point you have to decide how many Civ's you want to play and then add the slots in until you get what you want. You can always pick and choose which civ's and the leader that you want for that civ or leave it all random.

Well that's should cover it................. leave any suggestion or comments you might have.....

edit... oh and do not change the Leader Names as the solution to get 34 Civs to work was to used truncated Leader names.

I loaded everything up as per the instructions. I started the game and it appeared to be loading fine, but after 5 or 6 minutes the screen went blank and the computer froze up. I was playing as Native Americans, 40 civs set. My system is:

Processor: Pentium 4, 3.2 GHz
Memory: 2 GB ram
Graphics card: ATI Radeon 9800 XT AGT 256 MB ram

I guess I won't be playing this map.....:(

Thanks for this - gonna try it out (but with just the 18 civs, unless you have a .dll that combines Solver's patch and the 40 civ .dll)

hmm were you able to pick the Civ you wanted or did it hang up before there?

Ok I downloaded the file and it work fine for me as the Native Americans.... the specs for your computer are comparable to mine so I doubt that it is that.

Did you change the name of the leader head? If you did that could be the problem as the solution to get 34 civ's to work was to use truncated leder names.

Maybe that is the problem, I changed Sit to Sitting Bull.....

I frequently, but not always, get a qtd while loading a saved game with this map. I hadn't seem this problem before, on the normal maps. The error message says "bad memory allocation".

Possibly due to the size of the map?

Lt. Bobs 40Civ Mod has been updated with Solver's patch.

Great news, I can play without any memory allocation failures! Really though, thank you nightraven for taking the time to convert this map, it is a load of fun. I have even grown kind of fond of all the abbreviated names! :goodjob:

Yes, thank you Nightraven. I was about to say something about Sumeria not being where I thought it was supposed to be, but now that I actually read what you have written there, you already knew that. lol! Just a coincidence that I played as Sumeria to start with. It is way fun. Other than swapping in different leaders for the different countries the only other thing that I think I might want to change is to remove the Time victory condition. I think I can figure out how to do it. I will be back asking for help if I can't. tyvm

Edit: OK, I don't know anything about modding so if anyone can let me know how to eliminate the TIME victory condition with this mod that would be super cool. Thanks.

That is easy to do.... open up the map file with notepad and delete the entry that states "Victory=VICTORY_TIME" and delete the number of turns after "MaxTurns=".

If you want to Change the Leader Head of a certian Civ you can do that to this way just make sure you get right tag for that leader ie "LeaderType=LEADER_QIN_SHI_HUANG" if you don't know what it is then look in "CIV4LeaderHeadInfos.xml" file located in "C:\where-ever-the-game-folder-is-located....\BTS\Assets\XML\Civilizations folder.

Though if you change the leader make sure you use only the same number of characters for their names as the old one had.

P.S. YW and there is no e in my name.... ;) :p

Hmm I love this map but unfortunately keep getting the MAF (memory allocation failure) error after around 600 AD.

I have a fairly new PC the specs are: Intel Quad core at 2.4ghz 3 gig of ram, ati radeon 300x (the worst part but good enough for civ), and Vista as the OS.

The odd thing is I'm only using about 60% of my ram every time I get a MAF. Any suggestions or ideas?

This map works great! It would be even sweeter if you could somehow incorporate the Next War mod as well (or add in the futuristic techs and units for clones, mechs, etc. from there).

Two thumbs up! :)

ummm don't know.... your rig beats mine and I have taken the game well past 600 AD. Did you change any of the leaders names? Did you download the latest "40 Civ Mod" by Lt Bob?

I reloaded the autosave and kept playing for several turns. After that the game kept crashing with a new error message regrading a lack of video memory. I'm guessing that means I need to update my graphics card?

Could be as I have a 7950 GT with 500mb of Vid Ram.

:( I only have 128 and the Ati Radeon x300 is not that great of a card. I'm not sure if I will bother purchasing a new one, since Civ is the most demanding game I play. Ah well!

Ok I got the 40 civ Lt mod to work that allows me to play with more than 18 civs on any map like continents or pangea. So that is a big pluss. The one thing I don't get is that you gave a link for the giant EARTH map that is for Warlords not BTS. So when I do try to start the earth map it will crash.

I can play the default Europe for Bts and select any civ I want with more than 18 civs just like a continent map or pangae map. What am I doing wrong since I can play with more than 18 civs on just about any map besides the earth map? Is it because the link you gave for the earth map was for warlords and not BTS? I followed the steps you gave and got 1 of them to work which was the LT mod that allows me to play with more than 18 players.
What am I missing here?

well, I had messages about lack of video memory on giant map & regiment mod on warlord, and had one yesterday on BTS... With a nice message giving me the advice to change my video card... which happens to be a 8800GTX / 768mo RAM :goodjob:

I'm guessing there is maybe another problem than just video memories behind this message

I think you went to the link from the original map thread that is warlords based.... you need to download the map file from the link at the bottom of the first post which is called PublicMaps.zip.

As for the MAF errors.... I'm not sure as I haven't ran into any... are you running any other mod components or whatnot along with the 40Civ Mod?

IT WORKS!!! Thanks very much Nightravn for taking the time to do this. And the guy that made this map it is the best map I have seen. Will this map be playable when Firaxis makes a new patch?
