Novice looking for PBEM game

Greetings
Don't claim to be a Civ master but I have time on my hands and want to see what I can do with Frederick the German.
If you are up for any sort of game let me know - can probably manage 3 or 4 turns a day.

Giving it one more try, as I realise my last message may have made me seem like a half-pint fly by night who will start a game and then bugger off when it gets hard.

Am serious and looking for a long term game with 5 or 6 other human players. My only request is that I get to be Frederick the German so will let any interested parties suggest the rest of the rules.

Any takers? (am desperate - only alternative to a monster Civilization match is to spend more time with the family)

I'm willing to play. Vanilla 1.61 or Warlords 2.08. My only restrictions are as follows 1) can only play Mon-Fri(at work) my home computer vid card died
2) the work computer can only handle tiny/small maps
3) anything else goes. I don't have preferences for civs/maps

Sounds good. Will have to be Vanilla I'm afraid as don't have Warlords. Do you want to see if we have any more human takers or play with AI?

Awesome!!! I just finished a post in the "Civver Looking For PBEM Game... " thread just in case you had abandoned this one. Vanilla works for me, since its Fri before a holiday lets wait until Tues 9/4 to see if anyone else responds. I won't be able to view responses until then so if anyone does reply you can tell them all are welcome. If no one does then it'll be us and some AI. I'll post in the other thread we're looking and with luck there will be some takers.

I've seen a lot of posts about people not enjoying quick/aggressive games. I don't really care. Just looking forward to a game with another player(s).
Some personal info: I'm in New York (GMT-5) and have been playing off and on since Jan 2006. Civ 4 is my first in the series. I've got a 18 month old son so my early experiences on an ancient computer were very limited. I can now win most warlord level games against the AI but noble gives me problems. Just won my first culture game(2046AD). Usually I build until attacked so most are conquest/domination victories. Have never been friendly enough with AI for a diplomatic win and since I'm usually attacked by the AI I've never made it to a space/time victory. I usually play epic/marathon games with aggressive barbarians. All other options random. Sometimes I might play a specific map but I have no preferences.
I run the warehouse for a small toy company and right now is our slow time. Come the end of Sept/mid Oct things will start to pick up for the holiday season so I hope to get as much early game play done as quick as possible so by the time we get busy we'll be far into the game. I can get 2 sometimes 3 hours of game time in per day right now but not all at once.
BUT...even if we can only get 1 turn played per day, it's still better than nothing.

nice to meet you snowgod. i haven't played any previous civilisations either and have been playing against computers or my husband for a couple of years now. also have a daughter (7 months) and don't get out much, hence my enthusiasm for games of civilization! we tend to use the standard settings, though did play an earth map once but prefer random maps. am in the UK which i suppose makes me GMT. looking forward to playing with a fellow human who can't spy on my cities over my shoulder!

Any chance of you getting your home computer fixed, SG? I'd don't mind starting off with a small map but I'd like to get a bigger game going as well.

Looks like its just the 3 of us. Suggest we go for vanilla game on small map, 3 humans, 2 AI, normal speed. Do you have a preference for leader? I'll go with Frederick if that's OK. Comments?

It'll have to be small maps until christmas. I've been dying to play bigger maps but the game lag is incredible with anything larger.
Read on another post about multiple PBEM games at the same time. we could do that as well 1 small / 1 standard. Since it's only for 1 round it shouldn't be that bad.
this brings me to options...
small map -- peaceful game / every one for themselves
time culture space diplomatic
regular barbs or no barbs / no tech trading
I was thinking custom continents 1 per civ

standard map -- us against the world 3 vs 4 or free for all
raging barbs / agressive AI
time conquest domination
< since i've never done teams I don't know if game ends with 1 team eliminated >
as for maps ...
pangea / archepellego / lakes / or any other suggestions

i'd rather go with just the small map i think - would find it a bit confusing to concentrate on 2 games at the same time. your options sound fine snowgod.

I'm 9:00am to 5:30pm.
If you can send before I leave we could get 2 turns per day as follows:

X sends to S before 9:00amEST
S sends to E after 9:00amEST
E sends X some time in the afternoon
X sends to S before 5:30pmEST
S sends to E at 5:30pmEST
E sends to X either evening GMT or in the morning GMT
if you can't get home in time then it's 1 round per day

sounds like a plan. and yes to barbs i say.

is it to late to replace one of the AIs. my timezoen is GMT . whoever sets up game it wouldl be a good idea i think to give it an admin password as i think it has been possible to upgrade with patches games with an admin password but not 100% sure.

i usually play with raging barbs but then I usually play large or huge maps...so i can go either way on a small map either no barbs or regular barbs...i suspect if we play with raging barbs that we'll end up fighting the barbs most of the time.

what's the standard number of players on a small map? i don't think it would be more than five or six since huge is 11 and large is 9...standard is probably 7 and then small is five...

i think one turn a day is what we can hope for during the week maybe more on the weekend.....

as for leaders i like either fdr or ceasar...

we could play 2 vs 2 vs 2 or we could play everyone for him/herself....i'd prefer no teams but I'll go with the majority....

i prefer no teams too. is anybody volunteering to start the game off? i could do it but never done so before and don't want to mess it up.

sorry g-storrow - forgot to say welcome - happy for you to join. if there's 4 of us are we going to play with 2 AI?
