Hey, I've been working on a detailed scenario for the Modern World 2008. I've attached the zip I would appreciate if anyone could take a look at it and give me suggestions and help me with names of cities, sizes, and placement, as well as unit placements and things like that.

I'm using units from El Justo's The Cold War scenario. And yes I asked him a long, long time ago if I could use them and he said yes as I recall.

Anyway take a look and tell me what needs to be done. And yes I have lots of cities. Like I said I want this to be detailed.

Thanks.

Ok, I took a look.

1) You should add Sea around the cities, ocean isn't good.

2) Why not lump Cuba in with Venezuale instead of Mexico? Seems better from a political pov.

3) Baltikum part of Russia? Bad idea, they are EU countries. If anything, they should be Eastern European.

4) Afghanistan is Iranian. Should be Pakistani, Central Asian or American I think.

5) Bangladesh should probably be Pakistani instead of Indian too.

6) You are going to make some Taiwanese and South Koreans angry, for being part of Japan. But I guess there's not much you can do.

So Albania (Tirana) is part of Greece? :)

Sparta is today a small town. The most signinificant city in the region is Patrai.

Rename 'Crete' to Chania.

Thessalaoniki=Thessalonike

Tirinia (Tirana) could be renamed Ioannena, unless you want to have Albania there anyway, as part of Greece as things stand.

Rename Antalya to Smyrna (Izmir in turkish iirc).

Nikosia= Leykosia i think.

There are several things that could be commented. :)

- For example, Italy is smaller than Spain, yet Italy is a separate civ while Spain and Portugal are only one.
- Poland + Romania + Hungary + The Czech Republic + Serbia + Croatia + Bulgaria + Bosnia + Montenegro + Macedonia are smaller than UK + Ireland? I think Poland alone is bigger, or comparable...

Wouldn't it make more sense to have a big EU civilization that contains all those? I mean the individual states in the EU are way too small or fragmented to be represented on a civ world map. You'd solve all the problems this way, IMHO.

It's much more unlikely to ever see a time where Poland and Serbia would suddenly decide to unite, than seeing a whole EU civ.

I agree that it might be a good idea to unite Europe. However Italy is actually larger than Spain, atleast in population and the number of cities possible on this map.

Yeab but Spain and portugal are pretty similar. Their right next to each other.

Is Thule actually a city ? That would be so cool. :goodjob:

If Europe isn't going to get unified then you'll have to give a lot of bonuses to the smaller states since they'll probably be destroied quickly by big neighbours.

Yes Thule is a city.

It's an old eskimo fishing town, though now it's pretty modernized and most of the people work on the American radarbase, afaik.

Hmm, the city names in Canada are really messed up.

Victoria should be named Masset.

Tesha doesn't exist, though Whitehorse is approximately halfway between Juneau and Dawson.

Yellownife is spelt Yellowknife.

Regina should be named Prince Albert.

Frobisher Bay should be Peawanuk or Fort Severn.

Canukia should be Sault Ste. Marie.

Quebec should be Ottawa, and Ottawa should be the capital.

Fredricktion should be Fredericton.

Sheiflerville should be Schefferville.

Whitehorse should be Kugluktuk.

Victoria Is. should be Cambridge Bay.

Barhurst should be Resolute.

Wager Bay should be Repulse.

Ellesmer should be Grise Fjord.

Resolute should be Alert.

That's all, looks cool Silver!

I agree that it might be a good idea to unite Europe. However Italy is actually larger than Spain, atleast in population and the number of cities possible on this map.

Population is bigger in Italy, but as mIRC said as far as land mass is concerned Spain is after France the second biggest country in Europe. Besides, here you have Spain+Portugal, I think the combination should make it matchable to Italy in terms of population.

By the way, could you add the files to make it playable? I was just checking the map on the editor, but playing it would give a more accurate idea.
If it's not much trouble of course...:)

Third post in a row (sorry :p ).. I recently mentioned this in another post so what the heck, I'll throw it out here as well.. If you are to merge Spain and Portugal I think you should just call it Spain. It's a large map, some civs will not be present, it happens. But the same way you included South Korea as part of Japan and name it Japan you should just name the Iberian Peninsula "Spain" (in fact it makes much more sense to include the Portuguese cities in Spain than the Koreans in Japan).

Regarding the map, keep in mind that sizes have been changed, Europe is larger and America smaller. I guess ElJusto's used that on his map to keep the powers more balanced. I think it makes sense to have it this way, keeps the strength of the industrialized powers more real.

There are also some misspellt civs: Britain, Scandinavia, Arab League and Eastern European Confederation (I would also work on that name and find sth different) as far as I saw.. Several cities also need to be checked (ie. Cologne). It's up to you to keep the original name (as far as possible) or use the international version. I would keep the original, but it's your scn :D
