He's Isabella's grandson and Elizabeth's half-sister's cousin. :lol: He would actually suit spiritual and imperialistic very, very well.

I dont know any HRE leaders but it's so good to see another HRE thread. It makes me nostalgic for those pre-BTS days. Ah good times
 
Charles V should be a leader for Spain instead.
 
Charles V! Outstanding idea.

Personally, I would love to see Constantine the Great make it as a Roman civic head as spiritual/imperialistic, but that's just me.
 
Charles V would be opening a can of worms. At least three civs could claim him...

Never played AoE, didn't even know he was in it.
I know Barbarossa from Baudolino by Umberto Eco, which is a fiction, but it does have some historical accuracy and Barbarossa seems like a suitable leader for the HRE.
 
Barbarossa is most known for being part of the famous crusade (was it the second or third?) which had gathered the most powerful kings of Europe (england, HRE & france) and drowned while crossing a stream in Turkey...

I have a feeling that his reknown is from more than just an appearance in a computer game nearly a thousand years later.

As the King of Germany, Burgundy, Italy and the Holy Roman emperor, he's hardly a no-one! ;)
