Research Poll

The Poll is public, lasts for 3 days, and plurality wins.
This Poll will cover six main research paths (all taken from the discussions)

1. Replaceable Parts, Drama, Gunpowder and Rifling
(Lumber Mill, Theaters and Riflemen)

2. Music/Gunpowder/Military Tradition
(Cavalry and musketmen)

3. Theology/Divine Right
(Versailles and Spiral Minaret)

4. Economics/Corporation
(Wall Street)

5. Gunpowder/ Chemistry
(Grenadiers and Frigates)

6. Scientific Method/Physics
(Free Great Scientist)

Those who wants to abstain, can simply write it.

I support the Replaceable Parts, Drama, Gunpowder and Rifling Option, as that option is the one we need to strenghten the nation in the broadest sense.

Where's the Replaceable Parts - Gunpowder - Rifling No Drama option?

If people voting for Option 1, and does not want drama, they can merely write it into this thread. That is, you can vote for the option, and write a disclaimer below. I still guess several here want drama in the mix.

Okay, I voted option 1, but don't want Drama

If we get option 1. with enough disclaimers (more than half of option one vote), Drama is discounted from the tech line, very easy.

Voted for option 1, but I can go either way on drama being included, I don't think it's totally necessary but it's also only 1 turn of research.

I thought the same here as Grant. I voted Drama to make Husch and a couple of others happy. Only 1 turn, not a biggie.

Drama brings the culture slider and theaters, very handy when

war weariness troubles.

Best regards,

I think the culture slider was a very good argument. When we occupy Roman Cities, we may need that slider and fast theatres.

This thread ends after the TC starts, now I noticed that alot of you, including (even especially) provolution feel very strongly about this issue, thus, I will rquest that the TC be delayed to allow for the poll to end.

Thanks.

I don't think it's appropriate to stall gameplay because this poll has not timed out yet. I think you can post instructions based on the discussion and this poll as it stands. The vote is clear and besides it's your decision anyway correct? What's the point in having a Head Scientist or Education Minister if he can't do anything?

Hehe, this is indeed ironic. This is not even a 50-50 case, but a 95-05 case.

I hope the Judiciary displays sensibility in handling this issue.

I strongly prefer chemistry over rifling for a game against the AI. The AI builds lots of riflemen, so grenadiers give you an advantage there. Frigates are, of course, the toughest navy unit at this era.

Riflemen are great against cavalry, which the AI tends not to build enough to matter, in my experience. Lumbermills are nice, but not as nice as early grenadiers. (on the other hand we could research to grenadiers+lumbermills as fast as we can research to riflemen, which would get us to lumbermills on the way).

I'm convinced drama is well worth it for us because we have dye-- therefore a theater is useful as a cheap colosseum (in large cities) as well as its culture benefit for border cities. Large cities will benefit from having a colosseum and a theater instead of one or the other.

I'm surprised people didn't post their reasoning much for wanting riflemen, but of course that's what we'll research to because that's what people voted for.

I agree with you in general, Grenadiers are useful against most AI's, most of the time, because of their tendency to build Riflemen. However, Rome, the opponent we're going to be fighting soon, isn't likely to get Musketmen anytime soon, let alone Riflemen. We will be fighting longbowmen mostly, and Riflemen are (slightly) better at that.

I think riflemen has above all a long term potential, as they will last us a long way through the game. We can only play the naval game with Rome out of the way, and I think upgrading key units to riflemen would help us, not only with Rome, but also for overseas expansion.

I have changed my mind about Drama. 1 turn wouldn't make that much difference.

In a well-timed twist of fate, the schedule for the play session was updated anyway, so this is no longer an issue.
