Is there a way to stop the AI repeatedly asking for the same thing e.g. help with war

I've built the Shwedagon Paya, am running Free Religion and doing my very best to remain Swiss-like in my neutrality, but the bickering AIs keep trying to involve me in their matters.

Monty and Darius have been at war for quite some time, and I have been asked three times by each one to declare war on the other. Look, I said no the first time. If I do change my mind then I'll declare war on the relevant party, so stop asking me!

But of course, because they both keep asking me, both now dislike me because I've turned them down three times. So even though the war has absolutely nothing to do with me (it's not actually taking place anywhere near my land) I've managed to get two Civs to dislike me. This is a load of crap. How would the AI like it if I kept asking it the same thing? Oh, that's right, it wouldn't care since there are no negatives to the AI turning down one of your requests.

So, please, can someone tell me how I can either limit the AI requests to one per type e.g. Monty will only ask me once to declare war on Darius, or keep the repeated requests, but make the -1 for my refusal only take effect the first time of asking.

The whole issue of diplomacy is biased against the human. AIs don't ask each other stuff that will get them negative modifiers, and they're much more lenient towards each other. I guess it's something that we have to deal with.

I think the human should also have a "virtual" diplomatic modifier. If they make demands that you refuse, then you can choose to decrease your diplomatic standing towards them, and they should base their decisions on that. For example, if you are high on the power graph and you are less than pleased with them (cautious or worse), then they should think twice before demanding something like a technology, canceling trades or declaring war.

You know what's the good part? Even if you're at friendly with someone it doesn't mean they won't declare war on you :crazyeye:

Like, I really get annoyed with the system used to gain/lose diplomatic favour with the AI partys in this game, but I think it must just be really hard to code a 'NATURAL' diplomacy system.
Try 'always war' maybe, im sure it will help you appreciate the options you have...?
Medieval Total War has a different system, it works, like Civs does, buts its just as infuriating, and fills up the forums too!

Maybe after ~25 years of gaming, I'm either totally brainwashed, dead or realise that its hard to simulate parallel and analogue using serial and digital?

Here comes Monty, what could he want? Oh no, he's about to sneeze!

I thought maybe he was going to ask me for a tissue, but no, it was another war request. Egads!

Dude that was the funniest thing I've ever read on these forums :rotfl:

But on another subject: I've long said that the human players need the option to "red out" certain things for each civ. The AI can refuse to trade an advanced tech they just got (metal casting, rocketry etc.) why can't humans? That's really the best way for the game to be balanced allow you to set up certain things you just won't trade irregardless.

If you play the 34 civ mod you will have like 5 people asking you to fight for them every turn.

just to point out the diplo system in the gal civ games is whole mage tons worth better, so the programmers are lazy, stupid, being told to cut corners by upper management (the bosses would never publicly admit that one) or some combonation of the 3.

It's like Bush says...
"Either you are with us, or you are with the terrorists."

How is it fair to expect the AIs to behave more rationally than the president? ;)

And Spitefire, I have no idea what you just said...

It's the game's way of forcing you to get off the fence.

Take a side - or suffer the consequnces.

But I'm from NZ, all we do is build fences, theres like, national competitions.

Its really hard to make a Utopia in Civ4, (compared to previous versions).

You should've just agreed when Darius asked you the first time. The requests would've stopped, he'd had become Pleased or even Friendly, and the war against the Aztecs would've been a phony one. Now you have two enemies instead of one, that's just bad diplomacy. You will have to fight Monty at some point anyway.

It does. They won't go to war with you at friendly; they will never plan to go to war with you when they are at friendly, it is in the code, it has value of 0. However, there are certain cases where a friendly civ will declare war on you. Other than the obvious Apostolic Palace crusade order, there is another less obvious one. A civ at pleased can choose to go to war with you, it has to first trigger that that civ will go to war with you, but it will not declare right away, it will declare later as it builds up its forces. When it is ready (whenever that is), it will then declare war even if relations have already went up to friendly in that time.

Hope that made sense.

Best point ever for diplomancy.

How ofter the AI's come up with their ideas can be changed in the civ4leaderheadinfos.xml file for each leader under the contantrands part.
