For all those interested, the folks in the Civ3 Creation and Customization forums appear to be making some progress in getting 2K to release the code for Civ3 in order to fix bugs, modify and improve the the Civ3 game.

There are specific conditions and stipulations being tentatively discussed.

This is the best response we have yet gotten from 2K!!!!

We need all the support we can get to show 2K that Civ3 is still a good game and worth developing further. If you are someone who would enjoy seeing an improved Civ3 then please voice your support for this endeavor here:

http://forums.civfanatics.com/forumdisplay.php?f=46 go to the thread "Online Petition for an Updated Civ III Editor" and navigate to the last few pages to see what we're talking about.

Also please visit the official 2K forum thread which was started to show your support to 2K games for an updated Civ III. Here:

****NOTE:****

This does NOT mean there will be no Civ5, and it does NOT mean you would have to give up allegiance to Civ4. It just means that you think Civ3 is a good game and worth further development as well. This development would be done by CFC members at literally no cost to 2K games. In fact arrangements are being tentatively discussed in which 2K would profit from the enterprise.

Yeah! New patch! Civ3 all the way baby! Sweet and simple, yet fun and entertaining. Not too complicated, not too fast.

Civ4 sucks, civ3 for life. Wrong forum though.

Actually this is the forum I would like to see if we can garner some additional support from. A lot of people lurking around may not know the latest breakthroughs. Besides how can something be "off-topic" in an off-tipic forum? :)

Also, if you know of any other vestiges of Civ III popularity, please, please, feel free to alert them as well. We may be able to get a breakthrough here! :)

Latest Breakthrough? Where is this news?

'cIV (4) sucks'? Man, I guess they're just getting worse and worse. When I played Civ3, eveyone and his brother never stopped whinning about how HORRIBLE 3 was, and how Civ 2 was some kind of beautiful gift from the Gods.

Typical. Anyway I don't think you can beat Tethurkan's map w/ cities mod. So it's all a moot point. Now I'm off to play some real games, by Paradox. :mischief:

No offence, but you havn't got jack yet...

everything in this world is for sale.. why are you all so excited now?

Civ 2 > Civ III

Why not be excited? This is apparently the furthest anyone has gotten with 2K. Even getting them to respond has apparently been very, very difficult.

There is definitely potential here if people jump on the bandwagon. At least they are willing to negotiate. This is basically the way it is with any game company in getting patches and updates. You just have to press at it. I've seen game companies stubbornly hold off on further development of good games just because they thought it wouldn't be profitable enough.

If you like Civ 3 then showing that you like it will show 2K games that there is some profit to be made by improving it. This will soften them up at the bargaining table.

Besides, no one is asking anyone here to contribute ANYTHING other vocal support. :)

Would that not make them defend it harder/ask for more money?

Probably not, they'll ask for more money if they think they won't make any off the release of the code. If they think we could get them some additional money, then they would probably be more receptive to lower initial bids on the code.

EDIT: Basically the terms tentatively being discussed are:

Getting the code released to a few who know how to improve the game, then returning the code to 2K and then selling the finished product, which 2K will get money from without even having to develop the thing themselves. Basically what is called in business a "win/win" situation. Most companies are receptive to such things if they think there is enough interest in it.

Cool, who you may want to edit the OP of this thread directly to the signup thread?

Because they didn't offer it to us before. Next time, try to inform yourself before posting and trying to sound like you know what you're talking about.
