(My first Roleplaying Challenge that I've created. Go easy on me.)

Pacal is aspiring to be as great as the former rulers of the Maya Empire, but noone believes in him! He must prove his worth to the people and emerge victorious! The Incans and Aztecs are encroaching on his land, and the Native Americans have ventured a little too far. On top of that, the Portuguese have landed on the shores, and the Spanish soon followed! Can Pacal exterminate the invaders and make amends with the other local civilizations?

(Badly written. Blarg.)

Low Water Level
Permanent Alliances On
Time Victory Off

5 Prepicked AI:

Sitting Bull
Montezuma
Huayna Capac
Isabella
Joao II

Rules:
-Pacal must destroy the Portuguese OR the Spanish (or force one of them to capitulate) before the Modern age.
-Pacal must do one of the following...
--Force Huayna Capac or Montezuma to Capitulate
--Destroy Montezuma or Huayna Capac
--Form an alliance with Montezuma or Huayna Capac
-Pacal must keep his people happy! He shouldn't let them be unhappy for more than 20 (Normal) turns! (This is changeable. Tell me if it's too harsh.)

Goal:

(Your rank is boosted one level [If you got an A, then A+] if you capture at least two prisoners of war [Workers, settlers, missionaries, etc] with Holkans.)

A Rank - Domination or Total Conquest* Victory

Alright. This is my first attempt at making a Roleplaying Challenge, so I'd like some feedback before I start. Also, I'd like some feedback on whether 20 turns of unhappiness before failure is too harsh.

Sounds good. I think the 20 turns limit is fine, just make sure you keep excess happiness (don't hit the cap) and target either the pyramids or early Monarchy.

You should get a decent tech edge being the only financial leader besides Hyuna.

Good Luck, and enjoy.

One tactic could be to get friendly with Monty by going the same religion, and then using him as a dog to attack Hyuana, your main tech rival - (apart from Joao)

Isabella will hate you for having a different religion probably, so she can be another victim.

Joao is a pain. I would take him out too. That all adds up to it being a good idea to befriend Monty.

The happiness variant is easy. Just manage your cities.

Alright! Here's our start:

Pacal the Aspiring: Chapter I

Alright! Here we are in my first attempt at a Roleplaying Challenge! This should be good as long as I save often and keep that happiness up!

For techs, we went Hunting (To utilize those nice ivories near Mutal!), Bronzeworking (To clear out the forests), Animal Husbandry (for the pigs), The Wheel (roads), Pottery, Agriculture, Masonry, Writing, Sailing, Archery, Meditation, Priesthood, start Polytheism.

Well, I discover good ol' Monty four turns in!

MontezumaMeeting.jpg

Then Issy...

IsabellaMeeting.jpg

Then comes the second European!

JoaoIIMeeting.jpg

Huayna Capac, my tech rival.

HuaynaCapacMeeting.jpg

Finally, we have Sitting Bull. Lookin' for his peace pipe.

SittingBullMeeting.jpg

Ok. What I did is grabbed the resources around me, then went for a second city and The Great Wall. I've been unhappy in Mutal for a turn or two, but I'm gonna chop The Pyramids so I can get Representation.
We're having a rough start, but I think we can pull through.

I don't know where all the AIs are since I just met their scouts/warriors/Quechas, but I do know that Issy is directly to my south (south of Lakamha) and Monty is directly to the west of Mutal.

I think I'm gonna shoot for using Monty as my minion (kudos to whoever suggested that) to tear apart Huayna and Joao. Then, I can ally with him and we can either finish off Issy or make her capitulate for a Conquest victory. If all goes wrong, then we have our diplomatic victories handy.

Pacal the Aspiring: Chapter II

This is gonna be a relatively picture-less update due to my forgetting to take screenshots!

First off, I have a (somewhat) new city, Chichen Itza. Before you say anything, yes I do have the Great Wall.

ChichenItza.jpg

Next, Lakamha is totally fenced in by Isabella, who is leading the game.

Lakamha.jpg

Now, for the text.

I built the Apostolic Palace and Isabella won. Her first two resolutions were to stop trading with Montezuma (there goes using him as a minion) and Sitting Bull. Her next resolution was to Declare War on Monty. Of course, it passed. I managed to take Tlaxcala (I overwrote the picture. XD) for two turns before he took it back. I'm hoping to make him capitulate.

Alright, I'm fairly low down in the food chain. Second-to-last. My only real hope is to ally with or become the vassal of Isabella. Due to my goals, that means I have to take down Joao. Isabella has everything going for her except technology (That's my job) and a military (She's building now that she's in a war). Basically, this means that she's gonna beat down Monty with sheer numbers due to the amount of cities she has that can produce military units.

Meanwhile, I've made the Pyramids (long time ago) and I'm constructing the Statue of Zeus to help out in the war.

The leaderboard looks like this:

1169 - Isabella
914 - Sitting Bull (Somehow, he's keeping up without anyone trading with him)
813 - Joao II
812 - Huayna Capac
690 - Mattimeo (Me!)
628 - Montezuma

The reason I'm down that low (I think) is because I only have 3 cities (Isabella scooped up all the land. I should get more from this war) and my lack of any significant military (so far).

When I pull through this (or lose), I'll get back to ya.

Pacal the Aspiring: Chapter III

Ok, this has been a good round of playing. I won't say much now, but some major turnarounds are happening.

First off, I culture-flipped a barbarian city that I had pinned in a corner (great wall) for a while! Whoo!

PolynesianCultureFlip.jpg

Then, Isabella starts the steamroller by capturing Tlaxcala...

IsabellaTlaxcalaCapture.jpg

Her and I continue to march on to her capital.

TenochitlanAttack.jpg

Of course, that attack failed.

Joao II decides to mop up the pieces and captures Tenochitlan and Texcoco, forcing Monty to move his capital! Of course, this is the turn before the "War against Montezuma" resolution ends.

JoaoIITenochitlanandTexcocoCapture.jpg

The only problem now is that I don't know if I'll be able to take out Joao later. As of now, I'm ahead in tech. I got Gunpowder and gifted it to Isabella to help me out later on (I dunno if that was such a great idea). I'm hording Divine Right, Guilds, and the Printing press until I can sell 'em off.

Like I said, I'm ahead in tech. I took a chunk out of Monty's army, and I'm gonna see if he'll vassalize when the Peace Treaty is over. Isabella is ahead in everything that ISN'T tech, but I'm up to 5 cities now! (More soon if I can get some from the next war on Monty.)

The scoreboard looks like this:

1887 - Isabella
1467 - Sitting Bull
1380 - Mattimeo (Climbin' that ladder!)
1368 - Joao II
1335 - Huayna Capac (Surprisingly far behind tech-wise)
506 - Montezuma (Wow, that war really took a chunk out of his score. I almost pity him.)

Hmm interesting..........according to your rules, you'll have to take out joao or Issabella, BEFORE the modern age.

Gifting Gunpowder to Issa, was a mistake in my opinion, as you could have turned on her, and joined with Monty against her.

Now, your looking to gain an alliance with her, and killnig Joao.

Tech Rifling, Kill Joao, but I'd prefer to see Issy die, expand into her lands. Then Kill Joao, leaving the 'new world' to the 'old inhabinates'

Painted yourself into a corner there......Teching rifles, don't trade too much...don't gift at all, and rid the continent of the invader infedels.

I have a defensive pact with Issy now. Little did I know that Monty actually became Joao's vassal! This poses a HUGE problem, but it also makes it easier. I can take them both out in one fell swoop.

Also, I was named most cultured. :king:

Hmmm a defensive pact with the hated europeans :dubious:

Well, I've won the game objective-wise. Forced Joao to capitulate and destroyed Monty. I'll post up the update after.

I had a Permanent Alliance with Issy, so that may have helped a tad.

Pacal the Aspiring: Chapter IV

Alright, this is the big one. It's where I make the most significant strides forward and complete my objectives. With that said, Hobey-ho, let's go!*

*Cookie for reference.

Here's me Culture-Flipping Tlaxcala from Issy.
TlaxcalaCultureFlip.jpg

I are teh culture-flipzorz.

After that, Issy and I decide we want a permanent alliance! Alright!
DiplomacyScreen.jpg

Then Isabella takes Tenochitlan from Joao...
IsabellaTenochitlanCapture.jpg

...forcing him to Capitulate!
JoaoIICapitulation.jpg

So then I re-declare on the freed Monty and capture Tlatelolco, the holy city of Confucianism.
TlatelocoCapture.jpg

For the record, I went on to capture Xolchicalo.

Then I passed an Apostolic Palace resolution to declare war on Monty, allowing Issy to drive home the win.
IsabellaTeotihuacanCapture.jpg

Wow. Basically, the alliance with Isabella saved me. If I hadn't, Sitting Bull probably would've gotten a little physical and pushed right through my open defences.

The scoreboard looked like:

3316 - Isabella
2691 - Mattimeo
2697 - Sitting Bull
2315 - Huayna Capac (Who fell surprisingly far behind in tech at the end.)
1537 - Joao II (My vassal, lolz.)
Dead - Montezuma

So much for using Montezuma as my lackey.

[X] Force a European to Capitulate before the Modern Era.
[X] Destroy Montezuma.
[ ] Capture two PoWs with Holkans.

Not bad. Not bad at all. I stayed ahead in tech and culture for most of the game, and I got quite an army going lategame. I had enough happiness to go around, but my cities became sick near the end. I didn't win by the game's standards, but I did for the purposes of this Roleplaying Challenge.

Just in case you were wondering, I beat Monty and forced Joao II to Capitulate in the Industrial Era (close call).

Any questions? Comments?

Well played. To be honest I blinked and the RPC was done. Part of the un I think is getting feedback between rounds, but a good job at winning by the RPC rules.

Next time, I'll give more time between rounds. Sorry, was kinda eager.

I understand :D . The game was fun which is most important.
