OK, I am playing BTS, monarch difficulty, marathon speed. Game is attached and a screenshot of my empire as Wang Kon.

Briefly I hit the mother load of commerce. Oasis got me Buddhism right away and using the beavers squares for commerce and settling teh floodplains river I did real well teching, getting Monarchy early and used the oracle to slingshot Fuedalism (CG III Longbows).

But here are several problems where I am looking for advice

1) The world is Hindu and I am Buddhist. They hate me, do I swap to no religion?

2) I have no horse, copper, or iron.

3) I do have longbows, war elephants, and Hwachi. Meaning I can easily counter anything the AI throws at me easily. But I will no survive on this meager piece of land. Looking to hit Pericles and/or Ragnar.

4) How do I approach a war where my production is limited? Thinking combat I longbows and save second promiton entil battle (shock or cover). Jumbos can do teh work and Hwachi can protect teh jumbos (+50% versus melee).

IS there any real disadvantage top military buildup here and going on the attack??? Any suggestions on how to proceed??

Thanks

Why haven't you attacked someone allready? :p. Hwachas + elephants is more than enough to handle most things...

Phyrgian should be 2 N, shouldn't it? You've got plenty of production, crank out the units.

Seems to me like you have enough hard hammers there and enough food with the floodplains + food resources (esp the one with the fish) that you should be able to whip some to support your production. Longbows + eles + hwachas is an unstoppable army so you really want to attack asap and not let up until you lose your advantage.

I would recommend switching out of buddhism (you will get lots of "you attacked our friend" penalties and you don't want to fight 1-on-2 situations) and using your hard hammers + whipping to generate as much of an army as you can and then get on the offensive. With marathon speed you want to lose as few units as possible and the ones you do lose should be the cheaper-to-replace suicide hwachas instead of the pricy elephants. Your longbows make you impervious to counter-attack.

Phyrgian should be 2 N, shouldn't it?

I don't see why it should be. The way it is situated now seems to maximize the $$$ coastal tiles.

You don't lose "you attacked our friend" penalties by swiching out of buddism. The best option i see is to just kill all of the hindus if possible.. Alternativly you can swich after you kill the first one though you would still get you attacked our friend penalties if you attack more people...

I know that. What I meant is you don't want "you are a heathen" ON TOP OF "you attacked our friend" as that will lead to war horns and you fighting 1-on-2 battles. I don't think it is possible to fight all the hindus at once and even 1-on-2 can lead to a lost game.

Yeah of course. Which is why he should swich as soon as he get a hindu city(otherwise he would have to anarchy twice).

Ok, thanks for the advice.

Phyrgian was a barb city I took control over. Gave a second coastal city and didn't see a reason to raze it and resettle.

I am more reluctant in BTS to use slavery mostly becasue of teh capital slave revolt. But I guess in this situation I need to step up the offense.

I agree about switching out of Budhism. I am OK with happiness because of HR. I sjould also have the shrine soon from the oracle GPs.

I'll followup once I play it a bit.

If only a couple cities are Buddhist and most other cites already have Hinduism or Judaism, the shrine might not be as good as lightbulbing Theology.

Go OR (or monastery) and convert someone. Why and how does seoul have irrigated farms?

Wonsan and Pyongyang should be specialized as production cities, with farms, mines, forges, and workshops, you can pump out units fast to invade your neighbors. I wouldn't delay war too long, since Ragnar might be getting longbowman and berserkers soon. BTW, where do you get your source of ivory?

p.s - This game is a case of too many cottages, and not enough production.

You need to attack ASAP, what are you going to do once your troops become obsolete with no access to any military resources, especially iron? It would be game over.

On the religion question I agree you should convert as soon as you capture a hindu city assuming you can do that very soon. If its going to take you a long time to prepare for war (I haven't looked at the save) then go to no religion immediately.

DO NOT try to convert people to your religion by going OR or and definitely not by building monasteries. No one is going to give you open borders. Once you have taken out your closest neighbor (your direction of conquest seems to be pretty well predetermined based on the geography) and the AIs become your buds again, THEN convert somebody to Buddhism marking them for death AND giving you a nice gold bonus assuming you build the Buddhist shrine.

I think the map is actually a huge advantage and could make a 2 on 1 war (which is a high likelihood) fairly manageable. Your core cities are fairly well protected on the peninsula.

Jumbos and hwachas is all you need. Attack ASAP and kill at least 2 AIs, if they don't have longbows yet it should be easy walk in the park!

Also quite alot of your cities is not anywhere near happy cap.. This seems like a mistake...

Well, you ar eall right. The game was a bust. Built an army of longbows, jumbos, Hwachi and went after Greece. Got the iron city and Athens and had to deal with Zara and Ragnar who both declared on me.

The tech lead vanished real quick, Fuedalism spread to all and the hindu block cross-traded bigtime. Also both Greese and the Vikings had jumbos themselves, eliminated my advantage.

I could have played it much better and One workshop city on the floodplains would have worked well. No time though, as I am sure Ragnar had me in his sights.

Sometimes we just play a bad game. To much cottaging to get the UU and Jumbos fast was the wrong plan.

Thanks for all the advice, I'll try Wang again.

You can switch to no religion and open borders after you get missionaries. Then gun for capitals.

A good example of the importance of diplomacy!!!

p.s., you could've farmed the floodplains in one or more cities and used whip-driven expansion. early construction would've been all you needed to go on the rampage once you got ivory hooked up.
