This is the sequel to S-07, a game where we took a financial leader (Willem), took away his cottages and forced him to find other sources of commerce. This time we move up to Emperor difficulty with another financial leader: Pacal the Great. Unlike S-07 there is no restriction on victory condition - all are allowed.

Official variant rules are:

1. We are not allowed to own cottages. Any captured cottages must be pillaged.
2. We may not use great people to lightbulb technologies.

I plan on playing a Fractal map with every setting the default or random. Standard size, normal speed.

So please sign up! No need to have played any of my succession games before.

To borrow a house rule from other SGs: 24 hours to post a got it and 48 hours total to play. It shouldn't be a problem if you plan on going over this as long as you let us know. But with no contact you'll get skipped.

Sorry TheLastOne36. I'm going to be honest here because I think it's for the best: You're unreliable for playing turnsets and from when we played together in LK132 I don't think you're good enough yet. Nothing personal because you seem like a nice kid, maybe another time.

If you are waiting for people from the last game they can take my spot. I want to join but I started a new job and am having trouble keeping up with my other games currently.

I would have gladly joined but I'm already 'hands full' ;)
Also, I don't think being good enough to handle the no-CE and no-bulb setting on Emperor (as it's my favourite way to play), so I'll gladly lurk on how is it going on for you.

I'd love to sign up for this, but unfortunately busy/christmased out as well.

Good luck and I'll be keenly watching - like Pawelo, it's ruling out my preferred style of play!

Quick side question - is the spy economy viable/effective/sensible for this sort of setup?

It may work..... but I would rely more in the trade routes ;)

I'd like to give it a try--need to cure my cottage addiction. I'm gone about 10 days in the next month but should have enough time to play in the remainder.

This will be an interesting lurk.

Since I've never won emperor, there is now way I would sign up for an emperor variant.

I'm not that worried it'll be too hard. Especially given how easily we won the same variant on Monarch. That's why I chose a "fun" leader in Pacal, not one of the heavyweights (Carthage, Inca, Lizzy) - those are saved for immortal . Expansive does give us our two most useful buildings at half price though.

I'd also like to join, sooooo, if you'll have me. I'd feel a lot more comfortable with HC or one of the English ladies. But if you feel that it is doable with Pacal, then I'd be willing to give it a shot.

I stuck with a fractal map. It goes with the theme of not tilting the settings too far in our favour. Here's the start. I moved the warrior.

Thankfully we are coastal, though no commerce bonus like the last game. Any opinions on the start? Should we move 1SW to be able to build a levee later?

I'll play some turns tomorrow. In the meantime we can discuss how we are going to make our commerce, which (if any) wonders to build and what to start with. Pacal begins with Mysticism and Mining. We could go fishing then religion? We have a UU spearman which is resourceless and immune to first strikes.

Move the settler 1SW... it looks that we won't loose any thing form it and we gain the river. And Fishing first.

Our UU needs BW to be built ( not cooper.... )..... if we find a convenient neighbour IMHO we should rush with them
