I know you guys don't use ModDB to advertise this mod much*, but they do offer some pretty damn good prizes if you place highly in their 'Mod of the Year' competition.

I'd recommend updating* the FfH2 page, then submitting some news/screens about 'Shadow' - it's bound to get people's interest. And once this is done this entire forum can hop over there and vote for you guys.

In case you think this won't work or isn't worth the effort, I know ModDB is how I discovered this mod - there are a lot of people on there waiting to become addicted to this awesome game. They just need to be made aware of its existence. :)

[*this is assuming the team created the FfH2 page in the first place - it says the page was created by someone called 'AlterMann', who I've never heard of... If not, contact him/ModDB and take it over]

I fully support this. I even once pmed altermann, he never responded. I hope Kael will get in contact with ModDB.

go FfH2 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
go civfanatics!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, after I posted the above I looked into it further: he hasn't been on ModDB since January 2007 (probably too busy playing FfH :P), so contacting him seems unlikely.

The ideal time to commandeer and update the entry would be after Shadow is released, because then there's news and time to do it, but that might cripple your chances in the competition.

If everyone viewing this clicks this FfH2 link, there'll be a button where you can vote for FfH2 in the preliminary round, even though that page isn't run by the team.

If enough of us do it before the 20th, they'll make it to the next round. And then, after the Shadow updates, they'll kick serious ass and may win some of this.

Just voted for FFH2!!

Shame so many of these mod sites require the whole raz-ma-taz registration and useless questionnaire thing.

I voted for it a week or so ago. There is still no download or any new art posted.
Have they not responded to your requests to change 'ownership' of that thread?

Really? I found registration to be quick and straight-forward for this site. Took me all of 30 seconds, including the time to retrieve the welcome email from Hotmail.

Can't you contact the people who run ModDB and ask to be given control of that project?

I voted. I suppose Kael is busy with other things ATM. Maybe you can do it, seZ?

well, Kael sent them a message, but we only have 15 hours left.

every vote counts. thanks guys.

I've sent a few emails to their admin with no responce. Its kinda bad that someone else posted the mod as if they developed it (though im sure they were just trying to help out).

If I here back from the admin I'll post here, otherwise I dont know that there is much we can do. I probably should have started this process before yesterday (I know you guys were looking into it) but competing in contests is a pretty low priority for me (winning or losing an award doesnt make the mod any better, fixing bugs or adding features does).

That's very altruistic of you Kael, but winning an award:

a) Increases the public awareness of the mod, so you can make more people happy with it, and
b) Gives you money/a new computer to develop said mod better (these were the prizes for last year, and they didnt make much sense for a team-based area such as modding...)

Admittedly "b" is a direct appeal at greed (and I should have known better) but "a" is still valid and important.

And more people playing = more people to spot bugs and give feedback on features. You know it makes sense. ;)

EDIT: In retrospect, being included in BtS was probably better promotion than this'll ever be. That is, if people realize there's another mod sitting behind Age of Ice.

I agree, and "a" is the only reason I would spend any time on contests. So its not that it isn't valuable, its just that it isn't the highest thing on my radar. Personally we could accomplish "a" much more directly by just having you guys tell your friends about the mod (which many of you already do).

To be very honest, I dont think there is a substantial quantity of players out looking for Civ4 mods that don't end up here already. Especially BtS players since we put the link to the FfH website on the main menu for AoI. In general every article or post about FfH draws some players in, but its not a significant amount. We got a pretty big boost from the IGN interview about AoI and the inclusion in BtS. Outside of that our best bet for spreading the mod is time spent making the mod better.

From a marketing standpoint we've saturated our market (anyone who plays civ4 mods has probably heard of FfH). The real market I would love to tap into are BtS owners who dont look for or download mods. This is the largest segment of potential gamers and they don't realize how good mods can be (not just FfH but the whole spectrum of good mods). These players don't go and look on moddb, they play bts and then they shelf it. I need to figure out ways to get at them. But its a puzzle the mod community for all games is trying to crack.

the key to that would be publicity in field that reaches them. preferably magazines or online game websites.

So, anyone who knows someone working or having connections to one of the magazines / web news sites, draw their attention to our mod :)

From the ModDB site:
Top 100 Mods and Indie Games of 2007 will not be announced on the 20th of December as originally planned but will instead be unveiled on the 22nd of December. We have decided to push back the date to include 48hours more voting due to a few reasons:

* A rule amendment which states any mod released in 2006 which has not released a significant new version in 2007 (and has made the top 100 before) will not be eligible to make the top 100 in 2007
* The voting is currently very tight from the 90 to 110 mark with only a handful of votes separating the competitors, so we felt an extra 48hours of voting may come in handy... especially when you consider the following:
* This years top 100 mods will be showcased on the AMD! Game website as well as Mod DB and considering this site sees 4 million gamers a month, this represents an amazing opportunity for the top 100 to reach a different big audience of people and companies beyond the Mod DB

As always good luck to all developers, modders we encourage you to make the most of the next few hours because you don't want to just miss out on making this years top 100!

FfH has gone up to #148 of 6,820 in just the last few days. We need more people to vote! Takes less than a minute to register, which is nothing compared to the hours and hours (and hours) of enjoyment you get from this mod.

I had already voted but hadn't registered. Everytime I went back to the site it said I had already voted (had even cleared cookies once after pron surfing). But after reading vorshlumpf's latest post I decided I should register to make sure my vote actually counted. And sure enough I was able to vote again. Makes me wonder if my 'guest' vote would not have counted for much. So I encourage everyone to register and vote. This is one of the easiest sites to register at. It really took less than three minutes.

actually i could not vote again after registration, i think the guest votes are counted as usual.

so if you register, you can be sure it is counted, if you dont want to do that process, at least use you guest vote by simple clicking the vote button, thanks :)
