I de installed civ 3 from my computer to stop me playing it

but now when I tried to re install it the 2nd disc(play the world) has
a scratch on it and wont load
(always gets stuck on Hannibal loading)
other discs are ok-is there anything I can do to salvage the situation... :(

You can try some of the sprays available to see if they will let you read the disc.
I would then try a copy app like alchol120 to make an exact copy an dsee if that can read it with its error correcting routines.

Then try to install, if it can make the copy.

That same prob happened to my civ complete , same disc to. I had to pony up for Chronics only cuz at the time it was in stores everywhere.

I was jonesin so bad I couldn't wait for amazon to mail me another Civ complete. (so ya theres a copy of civ4 somehwere along the street where I chucked it coming back from the Best Buy. Also a cardgame shoulda landed close by it :D )

WHen I looked at the each disk I see they got these circlular scratches that match where they rested in the case.

As long as the scratch is not too deep the CD can be resurfaced.

This is a manual model (hand crank) and can be found for about $15-20. There are electric ones that run about $35. These really do work. I brought many old CD's back from the dead this way. Any electronics store or Wal-Mart should sell these.

Thats awesome. I know some places have those gadgets you show. lPLaces like used cd stores are examples an usually they will resurface your stuff for small fee. Id take the disk thier an see . Its worth a shot

thanks-what is the thing called...
im afraid its prob not an option in the country where I live though..

also scuse my ignorance but what is alchol120-where can i access it??

It is a program they you can get from the web that can make exact copies of CD's or just copy them to a file. It also creates a pseudo Cd drive to let you mount the image, so do not have mount the CD in your drive.

There are others that do the same thing, I just have used this one for years.

What version of the game do you actually want to play? If it's PtW, then of course you have a real problem. But if it's Conquests (as I assume since you refer to "discs", plural, apart from PtW), the PtW disk doesn't matter anyway; just install vanilla and Conquests and apply the final Conquests patch.

Edit: This is definitely the case if you bought the three disks separately. If you got them as a unit the situation might be different, I suppose, though it would still be worth trying to set up Conquests without going through PtW.

Good thinking cept I assumed we are dealn with a CivComplete set here

I know its not Chronics cuz the discs are kept in sleaves not plastic holders that over time carve circular scratches making them unreadable for installalation, like Civ Complete.
If He has Civ complete I bet the Op has scratches on all his disks that are no worse or better then the one that won't trsnsmit data durin install process. During install disk one of Complete must has less data therfor less chance of gettin hungup. I assume thats why it never fails untill you drop in disk 2

Why would he need to ever touch his disk2(ptw) if all you need is Disk 1(vannila) to start the game? THere for it should be flawless unless the way it was stored caused damaged some how to make it interfer with data tranfer (like circle scatches from the casing the disk is suppose to be kept in )

IN my indendical case, Damaged Disk one was still loadin the game fine but once I unistalled that was it I was screwed. Bought the new disks and tried used old scrathed disk to start, worked like a charm.

im afraid not loading disc 2 doesnt work either-when i pop in disc 3 it demands disc 2 and refuses to budge..

also the alcohol120 thing cant copy th damaged disc...

always stops at around 15%-(hannibal)

any other brain waves....

if i bit the bullet and buy again-do i need the whole set-
isnt the ptw disc on its own for sale full of bugs??

also,and heres a rad though-whats civ 4 like?

If you buy a new copy, I'd advice buying the Civ3 complete version. It has everything on it, and is already patched to the latest version.

Civ4 Is a new, and different, game, it is not "Civ3 version2."

I think Its a fun game.

yes,but i already have discs 1 and 3 dont i just need to buy disc 2 which is play the world?
or is the single version different from in the set??

(ps wont bother with civ4 me thinks)

If you have a job then Id buy chronics. You get civ2 which is suppose to be one of the best versions of the series. You get civ3 complete again and of course you get civ4 which makes a nice Xmas present for your baby brother.

Civ4's cartoon style is for young kids so young they won't be able to tell you just took the weakest link from your civ set and sold it off as a seprate purchase ;)

btw its good to see I was right and you did have the "Complete" version.. The reason you can't play anymore is the plastic casing you left the game in, j(ust so you no incase you buy the same thing again)

You are insulting the many adults who like cartoon style.

Its no different than saying "games are only for kids."

thanks jonesy and al,just to get this write theres a chronics presumably (chronicles) that has everything on??
how much does this little baby cost?

Sometimes the people at gamestop/ebgames will fix it with the resurfacing machine if you ask them nicely.

If you bought it from there, bring a receipt.
