[LH] Adolf Hitler

It's been a while since I last posted here. I've been off playing other games, but in the past week or so I've been getting back into Civ 4, and with all the new mods and stuff coming out, it made me want to get back into making some leaderheads. Well I juggled around with a few, deciding who I should do (I tried Charles V, Constantine, etc.), but the one that came out the best so far has been Hitler. I know, I know, there's been a billion Hitler leaderheads already. But to be perfectly honest, I wasn't taken with any of them... I wanted as accurate a Hitler as I could get.

So I made this skin.




I'm pretty satisfied with it so far. I can still see a bit of Roosevelt in his face though... so chances are I might go back and make a second version with a more Hitler-ish face. The mustache was a pain, and I still can't get it just how I want it. I'll have to mess with that too. But I was going crazy and obsessing over this LH for two or three days, so I wanted to just get what I had out there before I went totally bananas.

And yes, I know it isn't perfect and accurate down to the very last detail. One of my biggest peeves is that I couldn't get the Iron Cross medal on his pocket to look good. It'd get all stretched out on the model and would look like crap if I skinned it, and I don't really have enough experience with modelling to know how to make it myself. I know Bismark has an Iron Cross-looking medal on his model... I might try to follow some of the tutorials here and see if I can get the hang of Blender to try and detach it.

Comments, suggestions, constructive criticism, etc. are welcome. Just don't turn this into a political debate or Nazi bashing thread. We've all had plenty of that already.

I hope you'll forgive me for the direct comparison, but I wanted to lay-out these two Hitler LH's next to each other to compare. You said yourself, you weren't impressed with other Hitler LHs, so I put-up what I consider the best of the lot that's been previously released head to head with yours to compare.

Now speaking of your Hitler LH, I must admit I couldn't see any of Roosevelt in there... I actually thought (at first without reading your post) it was based on DeGaul. It's clear your work is very good... what it really comes down to is which original LH is best to START work on... everyone else seems to prefer using the Napoleon LH as the base... I'm still trying to figure out which one I like best, as both have thier merits.

One thing is sure, you put out a quality LH...

Best Hitler to date as far as I am concerned. The biggest problem with the old ones was not the Napoleonic base, it was that modders hadn't yet gotten the hang of mixing and matching model pieces (hence the painted tie and hair that still show the original underneath). In my book, the only thing the old Hitler has on yours is the Iron Cross, which you mentioned already, and that's really nothing more than a nitpick. Great work!

You cannot tell whether someone is evil by looking at his face, unless you are watching a Hollywood movie.

I agree, going by the screenshots this one is the best Hitler leaderhead so far imo, if only it were finally available to see firsthand.

Thanks guys. Glad to see my hard work paid off. Sorry about the file being unavailable still; if I had known it would take this long to get accepted, I would've waited before posting it. Hopefully it'll get accepted soon so you guys can check it out in-game for yourselves.

Also, NikNaks offered to make me an Iron Cross in Blender, so hopefully I can add that in if he does make it and make this LH complete. There's not really much else left to be done to it, if you ask me. The more and more I look at the face, the less and less he looks like Roosevelt and more like Hitler to me. So I think I'll just keep that as is. And the mustache is pretty decent now that I look at it too.

The only thing left besides adding the Iron Cross I can see doing is lowering the saturation on the tie a little bit... right now it's way too neon yellow. A more worn-out tie would go better with the suit and wouldn't stick out as much. Besides that, the only thing that's really missing is the leather strap on his chest... I already tried to add it, but like the Iron Cross, it came out really stretched and crappy looking when I skinned it. Maybe I could try to find a model for that too to make this LH as historically accurate as possible. I'd also love to find a way to make him do the Hitler salute as a greeting animation... Sitting Bull's greeting is perfect for it, if you ask me... but of course, when I tried using Sitting Bull's greeting on this model... well, that just didn't turn out too well...

If you ask me I will say the torso mesh is a little too large. also, a painted eagle in the front of the hat will be a nice upgrade. I'm also annoyed to see De Gaulle's military medals onto every leader now.
Except these minor issues your work is quite awesome for this leader.

So when will this be available????????????

How long is the moderation queue?

Maybe you should upload it elsewhere and only link here, the moderation queue seems to be moving at a glacial pace.

thats great, but the 'tash needs to be thinner, and a little more cropped otherwise, its much better than the old one

Agreed. Its a good LH, but there's always room for more improvement. For example, to erase FDR's torso all together and replace it with De Gaulle's suit. That way the torso wouldn't be so big. All together I don't really see Hitler in him much at all, but it is still a great LH. Great job and I hope you continue making LHs.

Looks wonderful. Somehow it just doesn't look like Hitler although I can recognize him under all that. Maybe it's because he looks too big and certainly not angry enough? In real life, he was one small pissed man. Your LH looks a little more respectable than that, thus why it's not spot-on.
