On mars already, waiting!
I felt this unit was needed to make Sea invasions more interesting; It is also good as a sea transport for Civs who don't have access to Oil.

I recomend changing the firaxis standard transport to carries two land units of any type, requires oil and rubber to build; while allowing the crise ship to carry up to 8 foot units and requires coal.

Galleons and other sea transports should also only be able to transport foot units; You amy want to set cannons and Artillery to foot units, or if you want to make Sea invasions you could leave them as they are, and increase the Bombard value of Frigates and Ironclads so that your foot (and optionaly horse units) have to use sea bombard suport to capture a coastal city, and then use the industry of that city to build cannons etc..

I recomend a ADM value of 2/2/5- the troop transport is realy just a modified luxury cruise ship, designed to be a floating barracks.
Its only in the modern era that dedicated military transports have been used that can transport tanks and heavy artillery and most importantly, unload them with out the benefit of a dock or harbour facility.

Create a folder in your CIVIII/art/Units folder called Cruiseship, and put the contents of this zip file in it XXhereXX

And here is a preview;

Anonther cool unit!:) I love the idea of using different transports for foot soldiers and heavy armor, etc. I was hoping for an assault ship unit to use to transport tanks, artillery, mech infantry, helicopters... Up for the task, smoking mirror? :D

Keep up the GREAT work :goodjob:

sadly, you can't create a specialised transport rules-wise: anything capable of carrying a tank is also capable of carrying infantry.

WOW- Smokin indeed :) I think I will make this unit into a large, fast troop transport and will change the one that came in the game to a lesser, cheap thingy for foot units... for nations without the ressources to buy this new one ;)

Man U R my hero !!!!!!!!!! Do U also take a lil unit request ???

It is basically sth that got burried along with Womok's (Reno's)dissappearance: The Aliens APC and the Dropship that transported it ??? I will C if I can get a grab of Colonial Marine...

If U would I got some pics too...

Your units great, a top notch unit creator. Another ship to my collection of naval units. I agree with alpha wolf, it would be great to have a WWII style aircraft carrier.

Or maybe instead of changing the cannon to foot unit... why not give the Frigate a capacity of 1... so then in the middle ages you have Galleons carrying troops and Frigates carrying cannon... Great unit once again. I'm taking a pleasure cruise in the Carribean with this thing :)

This unit was a great idea, it reminds me of the Falkland Islands War (1982) when the Brits used the cruiseship "Queen Elizabeth II" to transport troops.....good job.

Has anyone built a upgraded Carrier? So that way we could have a smaller faster one that holds about 2-3 planes... and a slower larger one that carries 4-8 planes?

I'm currently looking into making a Modern British Carrier, which is smaller than the super carriers and designed for limited actions (harrier jet). It may fit your request.

Yes that is perfect, when do you think you'll have that done?

I believe needing an extra carrier type is essential in civilization. Like someone else mentioned, the U.S. has shown how much of an important role the carrier plays.

More carriers would be neet. Maby an Nuclier supercarrier that could cary 8 units and a Escort carrier like the british have that would also have a nuke reactor but would only be able to carry 6. If one of are expert aircraft makers could build a herier jump jet that would be awsome.:D :D

Don't know when I'll have it... I've slowed down a bit recently :)

I agree, having just one carrier hurts... If you look at countries like the U.S. and Great Britian they really use their carriers. It gives them a huge advantage.

So personally I think there should be three carriers in the game. A fast carrier that carrys 3-4 planes. The normal one in the game, slightly slowler then the fast one. Then a country specific carrier for the U.S. and England that is faster then the normal carrier and carrys a couple more plans.

I Like this unit and differenting between fast troop (foot) transports and heavy cargo (foot + armour etc) transports that are slower and cannot carry as many- my twist on this.

My question is, what do youall use for the units_32.pcx image? I couldn't find any in Zulu9812's or kOc's files that looked like this, and I don't know how those guys are able to get the image into the pcx file, anyway.

Help is appreciated!

Civ on!

I actually used this as only a troop transport. I gave the regular transport the ability to carry 8 and movement of 10.

I gave the cruise ship the ability to transport 12. but 8 movement.

Both can only transport foot units...

I then took the scud boat and gave it a transport of 8, Nuclear Sub 4, and Aegis transport of 2, all tatical missiles only... (cruise missiles, nukes, pengiun anti ship missiles...)

I also gave the regular submarine a transport of 2, foot units only... gives it a feel of spec ops.

I upgrades the helicopter to 4 transport, the superfortress can carry 12... only foot units.

So now I can move missiles and foot units only. So I added another transport plane that can carry 4, of anything.

Which adds a lot of realism, in my opinion

Speaking of transport, I took that cool humvee unit and have it transport 3 foot units with an all terrain movement of 2. So if you take a few of them they can weasle their way into enemy territory up to 6 spaces a turn and drop off some troops to cause some havoc behind enemy lines. Kinduv like in Blackhawk Down without the downed blackhawks problem. This is good for areas which have enemy fighter cover preventing airlifts.

There are some good ideas on this thread. I think transports should not have more movement than naval combat ships particularly battleships and modern frigates because in reality transports cannot come close to their cruising speeds. In WWII, battleships normally moved so fast that subs had to be perfectly in their path to have a chance of getting a shot off - changing to a better position while a battleship was going by was impossible.

Therefore in my mod, I give all ships with engines a movement of 5. This way they all move together in one big stack with go to orders so I don't have to micromanage a d-day type invasion force halfway around the world every turn - its all automatic including AA protection from fighters on my carriers. Each type of ship provides different types of protection. If you like to cut down on micromanagement this is a good way to do it.
