Difficulty = emperor, map = TBD, standard size world, civ = to vote on, speed = Epic

Once I have 5 people signed up we can decide which of the three civs I haven't played will be the best choice for my FIRST emperor attempt.
We can also talk about map preferences.

It is time to start the debates. The first vote is which of the remaining three civs?
1) Maya
2) Portugal
3) Sumerian Empire

I am open for suggestions for map types. I suspect is somewhat depends on the civ.

My most successful emperor strategy has been to build a worker, let the capital grow to the happiness cap while building troops, and then produce settler-worker pairs as quick as possible to REX until all good land has been taken. Even though the economy takes a hit when you expand, this is easily fixed by growing your population and improving your tiles. For this strategy a financial leader is an advantage, so I suggest using the Maya (financial) or Sumeria (because their courthouse is available so early). Perhaps Sumeria would make for a more interesting game?

I think for the strategy you outlined Summer is a good choice. Early Courthouse + Creative - with any luck map-wise it could allow us to "reserve" some land for future use by faster popping boarder with less impact on the economy.

3) Sumerian Empire (Refar?)

Are you looking for another player or is the roster full?

No, I don't want Portugal. My vote is for Sumeria, with the Maya as an acceptable alternative. As for the map, I mainly play fractal nowadays. Makes life less predictable.

I've played Pacal a fair bit on Emperor, so I'd prefer Sumeria, or Portugal (in that order).

Map type? Don't mind.

If Jabah votes 3, or Refar confirms 3 then our civ is decided.

Oh, let's confirm 3 then. Makes me feel important :D And if i swing over we might end with a ugly tie-break ;)

On map - i am quite fond of Hemispheres or Terra (with the Old World restiction removed however...) - but i dont mind play something else too.

Our civ is the Sumerian Empire.

LKendter (default is the mystery of fractal)
Swiss Pauli (no preference)
Yena (mainly plays fractal)
Refar (Hemispheres or Terra)
Jabah (need a vote)

I will get this started tonight if map type is settled by then.

Would it be possible to have some pre-game discussion once you've rolled the start? I know you like to get going immediately, but maybe a day's wouldn't hurt.

I was already planning to simply roll the start and go with a discussion on opening techs.

My interest isn't so much getting the game going fast, but weeding out junk. I want to avoid a lot of false starts. For example, my first roll for the AW game resulted in an AI warrior finding the capitol BEFORE I could even build a warrior.

Sorry I was busy all day, so I just managed to catch up.

Since I have never played with Sumeria (and I did with the other 2), I am fine with this choice.

For Map, no preference (but not a too water heavy if we want a better challenge from the AI).

I don't have a specific Strategy, I am quite often expending as peacefully as possible (including going to research rates that usually make LK feel very unconfortable :) ). I still need to learn (or practice) early rush and Specialist economy).

Standard LK house rules:
1) Worker automation is prohibited.

2) A go to order is only allowed if you turn summary warns that it is happening and explains why. Sometimes it is just too important to make sure those reinforcements don't get sent to the wrong place.

3) Please complete your turn. At most the next player should have one unmoved unit such as a settler where you are unsure of its direction. A stack that is fortified counts as completed. The game should be sitting ready to hit end of turn with very little left to move.

4) Don't edit your game results into a previous post. There is no notification of new activity. I have had SGs stalled waiting thinking I was waiting for a person to move, when they already did.

5) The use of the auto-logger is prohibited for the body of your report. You may include it as a spoiler tag. SGs are about writing up enough information so that the team understands where you are going. The auto-logger clearly fails in this regard. Knowing the details doesn't show the big picture. SGs need the big picture.

6) SGs are about cooperative team play. If you aren't willing to discuss plans before and / or after your turn, then the LK series isn't for you. Example of discussion that is expected:
a) Early game dot map planning
b) Any war against a direct neighbor (except land grab from a civ getting slaughtered)

7) Putting GP asleep is prohibited. Even if you are saving him for a GA leave him awake and hit the space bar. Please try to use the GP ASAP and don't hold him for the end of your turn set.

8) Due to the fact that it destroys the in game log, the use of the BUG mod is *prohibited*.

9) I reserve the right to refuse players whom IMHO failed to play in the spirit of cooperation. Declaring an unexpected major war is a high risk that you will go on this list. Excessive personal attacks against other players guarantee a ban from the LK series.

I realize rule 9 is a bit harsh, but I can tell too much infighting will put the LK series back on hold.

Here is the initial start. So far it looks like JUNK. We have plenty of potential income, but NO visible food bonus.
I already moved the warrior NE, but nothing interesting showed up.

I don't know what will be revealed when we settle, so at this point I can't comment on tech ideas, or build path. Within what we can see it looks like a worker and mining to start.
I see no reason to not settle in place, and will do so tomorrow unless there is an objection.

Remember 15 peace (including phony wars) / 10 heavy war turns per round. STRICT 24 hours got it, total 48 hours to complete.

Win target: None

Planned wars - None

lurker's comment: IIRC, there is always at least 1 food bonus within the BFC. IMHO, that's a great start... but maybe little hill-happy

Yes, settle in place. I'm 99% sure that there always is a food resource nearby your initial BFC position - although remember it can be only a lowly cow plains tile, for example. And settling on a plains hill is a major boon early on.

I'd be tempted to burn the turn: the only food special will be plains (cows or wheat) or something on the grass 1N of the blue circle, and aside from the gold and FP (and maybe the plains tiles and/or unrevealed grass tile), we can't improve anything until BW.
