Apolyton Civilization Site is proud to announce that the PolyCast podcast family is expanding with a new show. The flagship show PolyCast is old enough to be a toddler so we figured it's time to give it a little brother, and we're calling it ModCast.

This new show, which will still fall under the greater PolyCast banner and be released bi-weekly in an alternating schedule with PolyCast itself, will be looking at modding of the Civilization series, with a strong focus on Civilization IV. The panelists will be composed of four veteran modders: former PC panelist and Desert War co-creator Wouter "Locutus" Snijders, Second Revolution creator and Road to War artist Tony "GarretSidzaka" Kiehl, MXMLL co-creator and CCCP team leader Kenneth "Impaler[WrG]" Ferland and last but not least Better Ship Scale creator and Age of Decadence artist Oscar "Elhoim" Velzi.

They will discuss everything that's happening in the modding community: news, forum discussions and new releases of artwork, scenarios, Python and SDK mods and more. They'll also spotlight bigger modding projects and interview the people behind them, as well as of course respond to listener feedback, whether through forums, mail or voicemail/VOIP.

Episodes, RSS feeds and contact info can be found on the PolyCast website (with one-click subscription links for iTunes and the like coming soon) and you can discuss the show on our Community forum (or right here on CFC :)). The first episode titled The Personification of Evil is now available.

Summary of Topics:

- 00m57s | News
Detailed discussion about ModCast: what will it be, how did it come about and who's making it? Includes a big announcement by Kenneth. Finally (at 19m22s), we discuss the Firaxis modding contest for Civ4.

- 26m16s | Artist Sketchpad
We talk about Tony's Realistic George Bush leaderhead and a Necromancer unit for Civilization III by Plotinus.

- 35m09s | Code Corner
Focused on the first release of Dales Combat Mod for Beyond the Sword, which include the Civ Customiser, Scorched Earth and Bombing Missions SDK component mods. (Please mind that two major updates were released between our recording and this episode's release, some of the things discussed are already out of date.)

Great to see you're expanding. Hopefully this will bring modding back to Apolyton. :D

Let me give my many thanks to Locutus for making the Desert War scenario. It helped me learn Python and I still use it in making new mods!

I don't think this show on its own can be expected to carry that burden, but we do have some other (long-term) plans lined up that might help with that... Until then, ModCast is mostly here to give Civ modding discussions its rightful place in the podcast-o-sphere :)

Thanks! That was my main goal for that scenario, so I'm glad to hear it worked :goodjob:

Good to see a talk show about modding. Hope all goes well.

Thanks. And I agree, modding was sorely missing from the PolyCast line-up :yup:

Let us know what you guys think of the show once you've had a chance to listen...

I see the modcast uses a different feed than the podcast. I was expecting iTunes to pick it up. Probably better keeping it separated, as they possibly won't draw the same crowd.

Actually, it *should* be picked up by the same feed as PolyCast as well (there's a separate for just PolyCast also for those that don't want ModCast, but the old feed gets both shows), but I just checked and see there's a problem with that feed. I'll look into it right away, it should appear on iTunes shortly...

Fixed, it now shows up in iTunes (and on all other RSS readers, none could see it before now).

Hey -- SOMEONE had to start the flame war!!!

And by the way, I thought it was hilarious that you created the GWB leaderhead just for fun, then were like: "OMG, this looks good!" I actually thought you were doing it specifically for Second Rev....that it was part of your master plan or something!

Yeah, and when i finished it, and also saw bernie14's Castro, i started thinking that i could have animated leaders for 2ndrev!

Just dl-ing it and putting on mp3 player :)
I'm happy that there's podcast focused on modding :).
