In the "Interesting Screenshots" thread, someone mentioned playing with 31 civs on a tiny map. How do I do this?

You have to generate a map with the editor and then change the number of civs. I have not done this in a while, but iirc it is in the properties tab.

and then you need to reduce the minimum distance between starting locations or they won't fit on the tiny map. I don't recall where in all those tabs you find this property.

It's easier to just go into the editor and change it yourself.

For the editor inexperienced I attached a biq file you can just play instead. Put it into the Civilization III/Conquests/Scenarios folder and play it by pushing Civ Content -> 31 civs.biq

It only changes the number of civs, and the distance between them.

It has 31 civs on all map sizes.

You can import the rules into a custom map if you want. Open your custom map. Go to File/Import and then choose "Rules" and then select the 31 civs mod. Bingo! :)

Yoda Power--thanks for giving explicit directions. I've been wanting to do this for a while, but I was too embarrassed to ask how.

Yes that often happens, simply because there isn't room enough. The game can still be played though, the capitals will just be very close.

Obviously the bigger the map, the more space is available.

I find the tech pace gets ridiculous. I was in the middle ages by the time I could aquire iron for my Gallic Swordsman. Some glitch allowed me to build them though.

someone calculated that on pangea tiny, 31 civs would have something like 11 tiles each

Right. The problem you get where civs are starting next to each only occurs when the 'amount of civs' per map are not readjusting with the 'size' of space correctly

The "distance between civs' function is made to situate in exact proportion to one another depending on number of map tiles allotted, or so it seems. :)

You could build them because you haven't had you GA, that's part of the regular game.

Yes the tech pace is faster with more civs, what did you expect? :p

can someone explain how to edit the number of civs??
someone tried to take me thru it before but it didnt work...

You create a biq file and go into the "World Sizes" tab. Then change the number. You can see how it's done if you download the file I posted. (Or just play it, since that would be easier ;))
