So I have this idea for an SG but I need help from a modder to implement it. This is parallel idea to the MLG CE vs. SE thread.

I'd like to start a similar type of game but with each player playing a neutered civ - a civ with no UU/UB and only one trait (of the player's choice). This may give some insight into which traits are easier to use than others (as primary traits instead of support traits). However I have no modding experience so I need some help here  I was thinking that adding in X number of civs (one neutered civ for each trait) and then handpicking opponents will be the easiest way to create multiple saves (while ensuring that none of the AI are stuck with a neutered civ). Are there any volunteers to help with this?

Well, you can start by using Sid of the Barbs as base LH ( no UU/UB from barbs and no traits from the LH ) and work from there.... but my 2 $ of wisdow only go so far ( I can read XML and Python with some ease , but never ventured in modding ) ... better call ruff_hi ;)

hah ~ beat me to it ~

talk to ruff methinks too ~

also, ozzie helped me with MLG stuff, so he may no, but i hear he's indisposed for now.

False alarm

I saw your PM shyuhe before noticing this thread. What I sent you won't help too much actually. I imagine you'll have to create a mod to change the starting traits of the different civs. The WB save registers that you are playing as a particular leader (stored as LEADER_LINCOLN). The XML defines the traits of LEADER_LINCOLN (not sure where though), so I imagine you'll have to create a mod with a edited XML (maybe creating 11 new leaders called aggressive, charismatic etc with no UU and UB).

ruff_hi is definately the person to speak to. I'm sure I could find out where the info is if you need but I'm likely to be OOP for a day or two (if this baby ever arrives ).

Like I said before, I think that editing Sid LH would be enough for the only trait stuff ... the UU/ UB would give more work ( maybe editing barbs and add new civ :dunno: ? )

Ok. I've got the tools to pull this one off. Now I need some players. There are some options that are up for discussion as well.

Map settings will be standard/continents/normal. I think that will make any VC available. If we all agree to pursue the same VC, then I'm open to changing the map type. The game will be 3.13 BTS on monarch. Since the human will only have one trait, I imagine it'll feel more like an emperor game. Of course this depends on what trait you take - like protective

The options are the starting techs and opponents. My job of generating the saves will be much easier if I can hand-select the opponents before the game starts. I'm thinking tentatively:

Hannibal, Catherine, Zara, Alex, Gandhi, Darius. 2 peacemongers (Gandhi and Darius), 3 warmongers (Hannibal, Catherine, and Alex), and 1 all arounder (Zara).

Since we're neutering our starting civ, I don't know what starting techs we should have. We could give the very powerful agriculture/mining start or something else as well. I'm open to suggestions on that as well.

Ideally we'll have 11 players but we'll see how many players are willing to try this variant/test. Here's a link to the mod that this game will use: http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=6629

Lots of open slots

EDIT: you guys post too fast. I've taken care of the civ problem with a mod. Becuase of the way the mod works, I can edit multiple civs then slot them into the game. As long as I edit non-AI civs, it's not a problem. Don't worry if that doesn't make sense - the game should still work fine :)

I can choose our starting techs. It's part of the mod. It's a pretty funny mod now that I think about it. It's like a more broken version of unrestricted leaders  For example, you can make every barracks count as a second factory and vice versa (I don't know what that would do to game mechanics though).

I was refering to the way each player will handle the starting techs ( I checked the mod page ,and I have too agree that this should had been implemented by firaxis in plain BtS..... ). Are you going to let the players choose the starting techs or are you going to give all the same pack ?
If you're going to let players choose the starting techs we'll see some Fin dude with Pottery or a Agg with BW  but giving all the same techs would be unfair as well

I was thinking of just giving everybody agriculture and mining. Or should I make one of them mysticism to open up religious options? I figured farms and mines are the backbone of any empire so people wouldn't complain with either of those techs. Either way, I'm giving everybody the same two techs - otherwise it'll be too unfair.

By the way - you going to sign up rolo? You're posting lots of questions for somebody who hasn't signed up yet

No one did so far... :p

I would sign it with pleasure ( it is a very interesting idea ), but I feel that I'm leaving too much games unfinished..... if you don't fill the eleven spots I can jump in

Might I suggest a combination of Mysticism, Hunting and Fishing (on an inland start) for the techs? Probably Hunting and Fishing would be the most neutering.

I'd give this a go. A neutered civ should probably start without any techs. The difficulty will obviously depend on difficulty level. There's no doubt that the player with financial will feel happier than the player with expansive.

That makes 2. 3 if rolo is still up for it. If we can get to 5, I'll give it a go. If we're going to play with no starting techs, then monarch is going to be pretty tough.

I can jump in, if the game isn't on a tight schedule.

It's on a loose schedule :) I'm going to see if rolo is still up for this game. If so, that'll make 4 and we'll be close to starting! I'll leave it open for a few more days (probably Wednesday) and see if anybody else wants to join. We can always start with 4 and see if anybody straggles in too.

There are 11 traits. Have your pick of a trait (first come first served). Is no starting tech ok? I can reduce the level to prince if that will make it more comfortable for everybody.

Count me in ,what a heck.... ;) ( I'm on vacations ,so in a few days I'll have more time ( just spending time making all those things that you throw to " when I got time for this" now ). This will be a really cool game.....

As traits , and knowing that there will be a line for fin and Phi, give me Ind or Cha.

I'll take spiritual and try to learn myself to do some cool stuff with civics.

Prince/monarch with no starting techs is fine.

I might be interested. What's the idea, we all play separately with different traits and compare our playing style/how to leverage the trait of choice to one another?

Guess I can go for one of the less appreciated traits in BTS, aggressive, and show its strength.

Edit: Might go for protective as well, whichever is available I guess.

Edit2: Changed my mind again, I'm going to claim imperialistic, as I have some ideas for that one. Protectice and aggressive is still up for grabs.
