HELP! GameFont.tga alpha problem

Ok, I'm trying to add some corporation icons. I did the forum search on gameFont.tga questions. seems like this file is a problem and all the other threads and the tutorial don't seem to help.

I'm using pSP 9.0 which doesn't save to a 32-bit TGA - but shouldn't be the problem because the game is loading..

I also have gimp- but not sure how to get the alpha channel thing working there.

I have been able to get the game to work but things are screwy:

If I select only the white as the alpha channel the game loads the icons numbers are right except it only displays the white outline of the icons. If i invert the selection then several white icons (showing many icons in place on one) show everywhere

If I only pick the pink the game crashes, if i invert the pink then I get tons of icons everywhere 9several instead on one) but the right color.

If I pick the white and the pink I get several icons everywhere but in white. If I invert the white and the pink selection and make it the alpha channel the game wont load.

attached on my gamefont.tga If some can explain what I'm doing wrong and how to do it in gimp or paint shop pro 9. it would be appreciated. if it easier to just fix my files I'll go with that too :D

no help yet. well I think I found something weird the white boxes at the top actually are place holders for white text! if you promote the alpha layer of the original tgas you'll see they have white letters but if you select the white area it will take these white layers too so it hard to recreate the alpha channel.

Again still need help, any would be appreciated
 
This kind of work is safer with DXTBmp. As there is attitude+resources+corps, it's too much work that I can't handle but I can help you with tutoring (not that I'm a great modder but I master these tgas quite well). PM me, please.
 
thanks snipper. I gave XVTBmp a try. I had the tga load okay but now its not reading the new symbols, so the resource count is all off and nothing is showing on the cities. i modified the alpha channel to include the new symbols but still no luck. I even have the light blue dots. so i'm not sure why its not showing now.
 
I believe you must be carefull when editing the transparency layer and make sure not to paste any pixel where there is a grid or a blue dot in the normal layer.
I also noticed some weird stuff with your new corps.

I'm having the same issue. After (finally) getting DXTBmp to work correctly, my new icons are not displaying in the game. I edited both gamefont.tga and gamefont75.tga (anyone know which is used where?), and edited both the main and alpha channels in each.

I also made sure not to disturb the pink borders, other than including the blue dot. Finally, I went back over the alpha channels and made sure that my image fit exactly correctly, and that none of the borders were anything other than 100% black.

All of the original icons in the game work, but not the new one I added. Do I need to change something somewhere to tell the game where to look for the new icon? As I understand it, the game takes the order of resources from CIV4ArtDefines_Bonus.xml and assigns icons from gamefonts.tga in that order.

Is that right? Are there any other things I should be changing or should double-check?

I figured it out. The color of my aqua dot in gamefont75 was slightly off. These files are a real PITA.
