I believe it is due to the leaseholder of the house only having to pay ground rent for the space that the ground floor covered - therefore it was a way of maximising living accomodation at the lowest cost.Whoa.. near the top, the inn branches out... how did they do that with Middle Ages technology, and is it safe?![]()
If I had to nitpick it would be that very few Ottoman mosques are so clearly white. Most are beige or more brownish.
