G'day folks,
I wonder if anyone can tell me where the game defines the manpower. Some fairly crude checks of unit manpower by adding various units to a blank map in world builder and checking the demographic gives the following numbers:

Early units ie Warrior, Swordsman etc: 3-5000

Middle Ages units ie Maceman etc: 5-7000

Industrial units ie Rifleman etc: about 10000

Modern units: Marines, Armour etc: 15000-25000

I'd really love to find where these numbers are set.

Uhh... the way I know it there is no such thing in CIV. You're thinking of Europa Universalis...

Don't even know what Europa Universalis so I'm certainly not thinking of that ;)

Just to be clear what I'm talking aboutif you click on the info screen and then select demographics you'll see a number of statistics about your civilisation. Among them is your population and the size of your military. By using worlbuilder and adding and removeing various units I was able to come up with the numbers above. There must be somewhere in the coding of the game that defines these. I was hoping someone had already found the location.

So I'm guessing the crickets I'm hearing means this is not something anyone has looked at before? I had thought this might be something in the XML global defines file but I've not found it there. Any ideas would be appreciated.

It is probably there somewhere, but I have no idea myself. Why I say it must be somewhere is that they say everything is moddable.. What are you planning for it if you can change it?

Like you say it must be there somewhere, if its in the game there must be code for it. As what I want to do with it, been playing a lot of RtW over the last couple of months and been working on a few changes myself. One of the things that is apparent when one does any reading of the Pacific jungle fighting is that formations such as divisions and Corps are unheard of in these environments. The difficulty of maneuvure and communictaions as well the the overarching concern of supply means that fighting is handled at a battalion or brigade level. In particular look at the fighting in New Guinea and Assam and the major battles of Kokoda and Kohima. It civ the forces of both sides would basically be represented by a single infantry division ie one infantry each.

Ever checked your demographics and discovered that 25% of your population is under arms. The ability to tone down the size of the army or increase the population factor would make things look a little more realistic. On that note does any know if there is a population growth benfit from reaching the industrial age? Its never occured to me beofre and i can't look at the game just now.

Finally there seems to be an explosion of specialist units from modders of late. Snipers, Spectre gunships, flamethrowers etc. In the context of general Civ and unit sizes of a division these specialists make no sense. They would be part of the normal attachements of an infantry division or Air Expeditionary Force. Allowing units more akin to battalion size would make the deployment of these specialist units more realistic.

Thanks for the clarification. I never noticed that before.

I'd assume it's somehow related to your world population ...

Shqype: People have figured out that certain units add an amount to it, later ones adding more. So do things like walls and cities and stuff..
