A Russian BB, built as a Dreadnought and refurbished as a WWII Battleship.

This uses the Battleships animations.

And btw, she IS ugly. :p

Edit: Oh yes, Thanks to Smitty, I took a look at his Helgoland to see what he does to make his stuff so good. I tried to do what I saw, but I am not entirely sure it worked, takes a lot of practice I guess.

Nice work Matt - you did what you could with possibly one of the ugliest ships I've ever seen!

At this point, 2 years exactly as of Sunday (March 2). Man, how far this community has come since then with units! Way to uphold the tradition Matt!

That was when you started? Neat! That is a while back, no wonder you are sooooo much better than I! I just hope in 2 years I can do something like what you do..

I do remember around then though I think. I had got Civ 4 for Christmas 3 Christmases ago, and I started playing around with skins and stuff.. Then it was some time till I started actually modeling though, though I did try something for Civ 3 once. :p

Xenomorph: yeah, they just do not get the point eh? And that Typhoon sub gives me shivers..

Now we understand that GM stands for "Great Modder." Good work! We need more Russian ships (and ships from other navies that are under-represented). :D

ATTN MATT & SNAFU...

You know I love you guys (figuratively speaking), but I got to say something important... both of you use too-dark of deck wood on your ships.

Deck wood should be of a much lighter color then either of you are using... Matt, you were going in the right direction (your best was the deck of the Mikasa), but you've regressed...

For battleships and dreadnoughts, THIS is the Wood Color you should both seek to match.

This Russian deck (and Snafu's Helgoland) are both about 240-shades too dark!

Both models are excellent, but those decks are way too dark and detract from an otherwise great model.

Just my 2-cents.

Coyote, thank you. :p

Wolfshanze. The only reason it is this dark is because in one Naval game I play the Russians used a colour like that on the Sevastopol (That looks eerily like this ship).

Hehe, I agree, it is not among the most beautiful ships out there, but that isn't your fault ;)

Thanks for this one :)

Massive thank you for doing this ship for me Matt.

It came out perfect :goodjob:

psob2: That is the understatement of the year!

Thank you guys..

Matt, just so you know, I'm still trying to prove you're mistaken on the deck color of the Gangut-class... I still think it's too dark of wood!

I for one, never trust a GAME to get the colors right (if they can get much of anything right)... based on your trust of one game to get the deck color right, I'm surprised you ever made a model of the Iowa... didn't Firaxis get their model right? Just goes to show, a game can get things wrong too!

I'm 99% sure the wood deck color is lighter... considerably so... but for the life of me, I can't seem to find any color images of the deck... or paintings, or models... all I can find are B/W photos, and not even those seem to show the deck! I'm sure not trusting one tiny image from an obscure game to be the be-all, end-all last word on deck color! When pretty much every other warship in the world for years and years used lighter colored wood, I can't fathom why the Gangut-class would be any differant (unless it's just to make it even uglier, which I wouldn't put beyond the Russians).

Stupid ugly ship is hiding it's deck from me... I'm sure it's lighter wood!

Well, I can't help but notice just about every single ship in there has very light colored wood decks!

Yes, so see that they are VERY accurate as you say. ;) I am sure not EVERY wooden deck ship has as perfect colour like that, remember that these were Russians who built it. :p

Not to say they fell asleep and got the Gangut class wrong... I'd like to see a referance that isn't game-based on the deck of the Gangut... my money is on the light wood deck!

I am sure not EVERY wooden deck ship has as perfect colour like that, remember that these were Russians who built it. :p

Now, hold on a minute there, Comrade! That sounds an awful lot like those terrible anti-French military comments we heard earlier! :p Don't you know you can't criticize anybody except the American military? :mischief:  :crazyeye:

So... on to the Sovietsky? and the Littorio? :groucho:
