As many of you know, The World Turned Upside Down is reaching its 50th update. As only a few of you know, TWTUD will lose its priority for me after its 100th update. Therefore, we are halfway to the possible end. At the moment my research team has begun investigating into other NESing possibilities and we have determined to present the ideas to you, the NESing public. Many of these will have groundbreaking new rules or fresh takes on old ones. Some of these new rules will be provided here.
1. World of Warcraft NES, generic fantasy NES. Recently, warman17 has done some excellent work on a Warcraft NES map. I would upload it for your viewing pleasure, but that is still a difficulty with CFC's current situation. For those of you who know the history, this NES would take place immediately after the First Horde arrives in Azeroth and would begin after the failed attack on Stormwind. The ruleset for this NES will allow some extensive creativity, particularly in the form of magic. The main example of this is that any spell is possible with enough mages or other magic users. For example, let's say you want to bring a pillar of fire down from the sky to annihilate Dalaran. Assuming you have enough warlocks to overwhelm the magical defenses of the city and to actually cast the spell, the city will burn. Or why not just send in Gul'Dan and use his magics alone to devastate the city? Magical warfare has never been so much fun.
2. Dies the Fire NES. Some of you may have heard of S.M. Stirling's dystopian future series. The premise is that in 1998 a great flash of light makes gunpowder and gasoline useless. Almost every modern invention becomes junk overnight. This NES would take an adventure form as players will play as people struggling to survive in the aftermath of the disaster. This NES will begin as somewhat of an RPG and will eventually return to a more traditional styled NES.
3. A Brave New World (working title). This NES will be an epic one along the lines of The World Turned Upside Down. It will start in 1830 and continue (hopefully) until 2030. Research has already begun into this NES, and a preliminary map as been established. There is a multitude of points of divergence for the history of this NES, but a brief summary would be this: All of British North America revolts in the American Revolution and they win their indpendence by 1780 thanks to French assistance. However, the Constitution is never created and the colonies soon revert to a multitude of atonomous nations. The rules will be mostly identical to TWTUD, but there will be exceptions, especially in regards to colonialism and expansion.
4. Return to Our Roots Revised (working title). As the title implies, this would be a return to fresh start NESes. Thanks to contributions from a variety of players and my own viewing of post-RTOR2 fresh starts, I have developed a new ruleset to allow for greater creativity and realism within a fresh-start NES. However, the ruleset still has its flaws which are being worked out.
5. CONTINUE TWTUD TO THE BITTER END DAMMIT! There is multiple choices for this. After 2010 I have considered several "end of the world" style scenarios. These include two different types of alien invasions (codenamed "Zerg" and "Protoss") and some 90s movie end of the world style events. Of course there is one other choice. The NES could continue into the advanced space age.
Now I leave the choice to you voters and I would like comments and suggestions as well based on the options provided. Remember, this will not be an immediate NES, as we still have a long way to go with TWTUD. I'm just testing to see which idea strikes ya'll as the most interesting.
