Historians Mound

Historians Mound is a somewhat exclusive society for Historians. Each turnchat would generate a chapter

There will be room for five historians in the Historians Mound, whose prime mission would be to write the history of our proud nation. The history would only become official when the four other Historians have unanimously approved the history of the main writer. There will be a historian to chronicle each turnchat, and place that history in the "Historians Mound Official Thread", with the years taking place, historical maps and major events for our nations, both in the land and in politics. .

Historian 1. Provolution, in-game "Provolion the Sage"
Historian 2. Oni of Chaos, in-game "Onion the Loremaster"
Historian 3. Shattered, in-game "Shatoculeez the Seeker"
Historian 4. Joe Harker
Historian 5. KWarriorpoet, in-game "Seidrik the Gray"

As soon as all five positions are taken, there will be no more Historians accepted into the Mound.

Memberships

Each Term, following the Faction elections, the Mound will organize a Historian election, where we officially poll the contributions from the last term to the entire people. The authors of the three best contributions may continue in the Mound for the next term, and two more authors may join by the unanimous approval of the three remaining historians for the next term. This cycle will repeat itself each term.

This is well outside the area where I would contribute, and I do not want to interfere, but think some comments are appropriate.

Good idea, though the exclusivity opens up some potential for problems. If there is an open slot and a candidate author, I think the mound should automatically accept the candidate, where the proposed structure requires approval by existing historians. The general principle of first come first in should also receive some consideration.

I'm also worried that having a limit may discourage the 6th and subsequent authors from writing at all. We'll get the most participation and most active role play if everyone is encouraged to write.

You are welcome to join. However, I do not want an anarchy, but to have each historian writing a full account about a turnset play. We may add roles for Historian 6 and so on, when we get that interest, and allocate them new historic roles beyond that of covering turnsets (Like writing a treaties on kings, or factions, or naval history and so on, there is plenty to be written, but I do not want double work here.

First out, we can start with five as a target number to cover the 5 turnsets as Designated Play Chronicle Writers, and then we can add in other topics for new historians if interested. The 5 roles are for the turnset writers. We need elections and appointments to assure that the people get the best Historians they can get, and we need a mechanism to refine history in the game.

But I write you up for the 2nd turnset, if you are ok with that.

If you want to, (if you haven't already) take a look at the History Deparment in the Civ3 Demogames I, II and I think parts of III. There's a history thread in the main forum.

Thank you CT, good to have you back. I think we are to revisit the entire history concept, as Civ4 BTS is a brand new game, with a lot of new properties, as well as having a more RPG friendly ruleset with less ruleset controllers as soon as we let loose the Faction beast (my biggest fear here is yet another bland centric game, then nothing would have been achieved).

I read those forums before, and they did a decent job. However, with better maps, better visuals and other powered properties, we can really make a renaissance here (and yes, I am not Alphawolf, even though I may a bit rough on occasions).

Would the historians get various jobs, for example A would do maps, B would to turnchat logging, C would do major events, etc. . .

It could be combined, I need to have five people aboard to see what kind of resource people we got, and not over-organize before that. At least for now, it will cover each Historian a turnset, as the core activity.

I'll join, we can discuss about who does what later. :D

I shall join as well.

You are in, Shattered, I await an in-game name from you.

We still need at least 2 more historians here, hopefully also more, since there may be several aspects of history to cover (creative writing about turnsets, roleplay and so on for each session, plus other activities).

I would be happy to help out! :)

You are welcome Joe Harker, we need a fun in-character name from you as well :)

I love creative writing, but throwing in maps and graphics...well, while the words may flow like a raging torrent to carry its audience down the racing rapids, I'm afraid that illustrations other than in text form may not be my strongest suit. I would personally prefer to focus on key events, discussions, things with Drama. I am not great at the book-keeping required for timelines, like one would expect to find in a GOTM, for example.

So, if you need a dramatic RP-style short story here and there, sign me up!

Kwarrior poet, you are in as the fifth historian :) please make an in-character name for him.

I would really love it if a Mod could change my login name to Seidrik_The_Gray, but until that happens, then please consider that my in-character name. I have made it my tailored title under my login ID. Is it possible to change your login ID? kwarriorpoet is something I created back in the Braveheart days...and much of my forum history appears to have vanished when I stopped lurking in these forums around 2002 or so. Anyway, I'm a lowly prince again, and would like to have my forum ID perma-changed if possible. Otherwise, I would consider just making a new profile. Was interested in keeping my forum history in tact though...Any suggestions?

Just ask Thunderfall to change your name.
