Spicing up the Elohim?

The person in my LAN group who tends to play the Elohim wants them "spiced up" a little. Suggestions? She likes the present UBs by the way, and the Devout. Not thrilled by the Monks, though. (I think it's because we don't have enough demons in our games. But then, I think that about most things.)

I've altered other civs, tweaking them to fit personal tastes, but I'm stumped by this one. ("Spiced up" isn't exactly a concrete spec, anyway.)

Any ideas for something that can be done via XML or very simple python? (So a new unit or building would work as long as there are some appropriate graphics somewhere I could use.) It doesn't have to be powerful, just useful and - most importantly - interesting.

The only idea I've had so far is to either add a trait to each leader, or add something to Defender. I haven't thought of anything particularly interesting or fitting, though.

What about give them a unique griffon unit now that they aren't spells? Griffons would be so cool for the elohim. I would suggest they are the kind of UU that don't actually replace something (like freaks), buildable with one of their UBs.

Personally, I'd like them to have a couple more rituals. Maybe one that damages all emeny units in their borders, one that kills all demons in their borders.

I think they sould be able to consript monks, because they are much too expensive. Also, give them a couple unique anti-armaggedon spells as well as some for their magic side.

Force all players with a Unique Feature in their cultural Radius to grant Open Borders to the Elohim automatically (unless in war, and canceled by declaring war). Not quite certain how simple that one would be in Python though, could be processor intensive.

I always reduce monk's strength slightly, but give them Spirit mana affinity.

Sometimes I also give them channeling1, spirit1 (allows courage), spirit1 (allows sanctify), and occasionally also channeling2 and divine (allowed spirit guide and cure disease).

I also usually give the leaders the spiritual trait again (they are supposed to be the representatives of the spirit sphere after all), but reduce the monk's movement rate (since spiritual gives them mobility for free). Considering that the removal of the education civic category nerfed philosophical at the same time they lost Spiritual, the removal of the trait was a very bad idea (especially for Einion).

I'm thinking that I'll make Corindale's "Peace" spell be the new spirit III spell (replacing Trust, which irritates me because it can only be used once a game), and make Corindale start with Spirit III (and maybe I and II). I may also make him an overcouncil Councilor (like Chalid and Teutorix, he would give an extra overcouncil vote)

Thanks! I'll probably reduce the strength of monks, give them a Spirit affinity, make them conscriptable, and add a griffon UU. And maybe something with the leader Traits.

The ritual and open border ideas are great, but aren't nearly so simple to do. I'll just pester MagisterCultuum and xienwolf to ad them to their modmods. ;)

Both leaders used to have 3 traits - they both had either spiriual or defender aswell as the two they have now. I dont know why they were removed, the elohim are a weak civ without it. Could you make an elohim modmod? Just upload your changes? Would really appreciate it.

I definitely second this!

I really miss that Spiritual trait and still am often surprised when I get Anarchy when changing civics.

I voted for the Elohim as my favorite civ in the recent poll mainly because they are the only civ I can win a game at any difficulty - thanks to the Altar Victory. :)

I agree they ARE a bit dull, though, and I am enjoying playing other civs now. I often don't build Monks at all as I usually get things done with Rangers instead. If I can get Priesthood early on, then, I might build a few. It's true there doesn't seem to be many Demons around to make them a worthwhile build.

I never use their World Spell. I think that could be improved.

I like Corlindale as their National hero, but you really have to micromanage him (I usually give him a Worker or 2 escort) as he is easily picked off my Assassins.

My biggest problem with the Elohim is that I almost always play them as Good and cannot get Druids...although Corlindale can get Nature III for Vitalize. The Paladins can be tough though especially if you build them in the same city you have all the Altars.

I think if your friend wanted to spice them up, do what I did in my last .30 game with them. I got OO and fielded the Corlindale-Hemah team. That was quite a bit of firepower!;)

Could you make an elohim modmod? Just upload your changes? Would really appreciate it.

Sure. I'll need to download .31 first, among other things. We've been using .30g for fear of OOSs.

Any suggestions on where to put the griffon UU? I'll mostly be going off what the Elohim player here wants, but I can open the discussion with your suggestion.
