Ahhh! Take your shoes off in the house!! That always drove me nuts when I was down in the States.

I usually switch to slippers once I get home for the night, but I don't have a problem wearing shoes in the house. There are a few friends' houses that I would never consider wearing shoes in, and I think once I've got my own apartment it'll be a no-shoes zone, but I don't see much to fuss about.

Do you wear shoes in your house? Is that normal in your area? If you don't wear shoes, what do you wear? Socks, slippers, bare feet?

I love clean rugs so they come off in the foyer.

I sometimes walk around my apartment with my raggity Brasilian flip flops, but never real shoes. I try to keep the ol' carpet clean

I always take my shoes off in my house and anyone else's house unless it's so unclear that i'd get my socks dirty.

Occasionally if I am in a hurry, and I have to grab something, or put something away, then I will run back in with my shoes. Otherwise, I don't.

I imagine their most be a geographical regionalization of people who wear shoes and those that don't. If it was random in each area, there would be too faux pas.

Perhaps a more indepth poll would include a bunch of regions. Perhaps 5 or 6 American regions, Canada, Europe, and then other (specified). There can be a yes and no for each.

There's snow outside three to four months a year so keeping shoes on inside would be stupid. But then again, I like a clean house. Even when it's dry outside you still bring small pieces of dirt and rocks with you, that's a no no. And I'm not the kind of person to own a pair of shoes for "indoor use only". Oh! And I just moved on a second floor apartment with wooden floor, keeping shoes on wouldn't be nice for my downstair neighbors.

Well, in southern europe we don't use carpets. So yes, I wear shoes at home.

I spent a lot of my formative years in Hawaii, where practically everyone slips off their shoes at the door. (Half the time everyone's wearing slippers anyway, so it's easy and quick to do) I usually take my shoes off when I'm at my house, or anyone else's house, if I'm going to be staying inside for any length of time. Like, if I'm just running up to grab my wallet, the shoes stay on. But if I'm going to eat a meal or watch some TV or something, they've got to come off.

I go barefoot outside and put the shoes on when I get inside to protect my carpet from my disgusting skin.
