Yes, I'm back in the SG arena.

No, I don't think I have started 19 Fox games, but I'm simply too old/lazy to remember/figure out what was the previous number I stopped at.

Enough of this ...

The Game Settings

It will be plain Always War on Monarch. There has been too few Always War recently, and someone must teach Pholky how an Always War is conducted.

It will be harsh.

Not as in the trademark Fox rant would be there kind of harsh, but the climate will be harsh -- A Boreal Map.

To fit the Boreal theme, Leader will be Boudica.

To make it long harsh war, speed will be epic.

Players

- Myself, obviously
- Ozbenno, who asked me to start an AW game with Boreal Map
- r_rolo1,
- Olodune,
- Jabah
- and berserks01.

A nice mix of familiar players and those whom I have never played with, I must say.

Deviant Minds SG Etiquette applies.

I wish you luck. As we learned in PH08 the Boreal Map just plain sucks. I'm curious if the Celtic UU will turn the early game to your favor...

You stopped at 10 ,Mr Fox ( or are so lazy that you don't even check your civ page ? ) :p Good to see you around again....

Let's see, Boreal with Boudica, AW, epic... crazy enough . Count me in. Somehow i sense that the game will not last long anyway.....

I must limit myself to 1 SG, but seems like AA2 is about to wrap up. Slot me in at the end and if AA2 finishes before this one starts I'm game. If you have enough players and don't need another one, I'm fine with just lurking.

Checking in. Should be fun. Although I'm sure I'll be wondering why I asked for this at some stage.

Well, asking to play with Fox + Boreal + epic + AW = masochism in my dictionary

Glad to see you back. We are running out of interesting games to LURK.

I would be interested.

It would be my first SG, so if you want a more experienced hand I'll happily lurk instead. :)

I'm mostly comfortable at immortal in single player and have been playing a few Boreal maps recently (*not* always war though -- my always war experience is slim).

@Lee: Thanks for the encouragement  Hope this will turn out to be a worthwhile lurk for all.

@Olodune: Immortal? ... you are OVER-QUALIFIED. Glad to have you on board, I hope I am worthy enough :p Welcome!

Ok, we have a full roster ... and maybe one more depending on whether there is anyone who very much dying to join. Will start this in a moment (for the benefit of Olodune, this usually means anything from 24 secs to 24 hrs).

Thanks :D

With any luck we'll make it to this:

If you want someone else, I 'ld be glad to join.

'Confortable' at emperor, but my only real experience with AW (except lurking the previous SGs, of course) was a recent RB Epic (which I didn't finish due to time limit, but was in a likely winnable position); so expect a few questionable ideas (during brainstorming mainly)...

Jabah

Hey, vra, good to see you still around these boards!

Jabah, you are in, and we are full, and here we go:

The settings, nothing unusual ... except the Always War and of-course what's come with AW -- No Tech Trading.

Fox20-Settings.jpg

Boadicea ... (legend has it that she poisoned herself after suffering a defeat against the Romans ... let's hope we don't suffer the same fate, and there be no romans in this game ).

Fox20-Boudica.jpg

Woosh, not too crappy.

Fox20-Start.jpg

5 visible resources around the starting location ... only rant is that it is at the top edge of the map, and the scout is stupidly positioned right at the edge.

I am inclined to settle in place, go for warrior then worker, research Mining then BW (With deers, we are not too pressured to go Farming first, better to get chopping/whip available first)

EDIT: Do throw in your thoughts, though I won't have Internet Access tomorrow until late at night (that's when will play the first 20 or so).

Being at the edge is good for AW, better than in the middle at least.

More problematic is the lack of production (no hill, only food ressource and gems), except forrest (and some are toundra ones) that we might have to keep for much longer than normal. But I have no experience with Boreal, so maybe it is the norm?

Jabah

Do we need BW to be able to mine a forrested gems?

At least we are at the edge of the map.... we have one side from where we can't be attacked

Deer, deer , lovely deer .... Staring with hunting is good for boreal ;)

Move the scout eat and post again... I bet that there isn't nothing earth shaking there, but... And most likely settle in place.

P.S We need BW and we don't lack food from the deer. So maybe mining -> BW is the best path

Glad to see you starting another AW game fox. I'm sure this will be another intersting lurk - I also want to see how this map script looks like (never played it...)

/lurkmode on

Building a worker while researching mining->bronze looks good. Forested plains deer are a very nice tile for camping. I like the start :) The scout may change things.

More problematic is the lack of production

I don't really see this as a problem. All workable tiles have at least 1 hammer -- these will add up nicely. Four food resources and :whipped: will help for a military surge later on.

On most mapscripts I'm all for early de-forestation, but on Boreal leaving forests (on tundra at least) seems like a good idea. There will be health cap pressure.

Early happy cap will be helped quite a bit by charismatic/gems. HR might be a good medium distance goal.

Securing copper early would make Boudica happy. Gaellics can be built with copper, IIRC.

Question:
Does anyone know the WW mechanics for battles in neutral territory? This would be a good thing to know for this game :scan:

....But AW requires to cut atleast the 1st ring ;)

About WW: there is a article on it in the Strategy articles. Will post it here when it find it.

Ok, try here ... as BtS WW is culture dependant I'm not so sure, but it looks that neutral ground is as bad as fighting in their land ( unless my painkillers are blocking too much my brain ;) )

Once catapult supported stacks start rolling in we will certainly need "killing grounds". With our start ("back against the wall") this may not be everywhere. *crosses fingers*
