Set near the beginning of the war, all the southern states have seceded and the only peace possible between Lincoln and Jefferson Davis is the peace of victory and defeat. The south has cotton (ok, silk) and able generals; the north has the population, economic might, and industrial capability. Canada, the border states, and Indian territory are also represented, though they are not playable and cannot be attacked.

:hmm: Actually, you might send woodelf a PM (if he hasn't noticed, ye might be "in the moderation que" for days - it does happen ye know)...

After that, I think it'll do just fine: there's been missing an American Civil War scenario for Civ4 for quite a while now.;)

Really? Because I think someone done a global American Civil War scenario, I can't remember who he was. COUGH\Earth 1862 AD\COUGH

hi El Hidalgo :)

just wanted to say to u that there is a mod half made by Shiggs713 in the modpacks that is about the civil war and the only thing he needs is a scenario.. i think u could combine ur effords :P

well, its actually slightly less than half made (around 40% of my original expectations) ;)..... it needs a little more work than just a scenario, but your about right Caleb.

I'd be glad to have any additional help, I've been working on it mostly all on my own for over a year now, on and off.

I checked out your scenario El Hidalgo. It is surprisingly good for only a WBS file :)

A few things to note; The confederacy will be bankrupt and units on strike if your not producing gold fairly soon into the game. I can just foresee the AI messing up their economy and ruining the game fairly soon like this.

You should note that it should only be played on epic or marathon speed, because any faster and you will lose the effect your going for.

The confederates actually start the game more powerful than the union. This is incorrect. My first game I started as them (playing on prince level), and had easily pushed through washington, gettysburg, philadelphia, within a few turns.

Also the naval balance is incorrect. Look up the Anaconda plan. While on land, the confederates were not far behind the union, in naval power they were completely out classed, and should have to turn to unconventional methods to deter the union navy. (perhaps your only solution is giving them some smaller, lighter ships, and 1 ironclad, while the union should have several ships of the line, frigates, and at least 1 more ironclad than the confederates have. See Cotton Diplomacy)

maybe some other things I forgot, but its pretty good. I enjoyed it. If you would like to work on the American Civil War mod with me, just give me a shout

Looks like fun. Can't wait to play this one. Unfortunately, I haven't had much time to devote to Civ and I'm still in the middle of Lokolus' excellent 1862AD scenario (shameless not -intended to threadjack plug).

But it's nice to have a scenario that is a little more focused on just the "War Between the States", and I'm looking forward to getting into it.

One quick criticism (and it's nitpicky) Is there a way to adjust the founded dates for cities? Looks odd that they were all founded in 1840AD.

Not bad as a first try, but whats up with that Red Cross Flag for the South?
Would have been better if you had North and South units implemented also, rather than the normal standard ones, just my opinion.

Thanks! The "Red Cross" is the closest approximation I could find for the Southern Cross battle flag of the Confederacy. Because it's a WBS scenario, I'm limited to the flags that are included with the game. And that's the same issue with the units: unless I turn it into a full-blown mod I have to use the included units.

A full-blow mod is, however, in the works, led by Shuggs, as noted above in this thread. I have a feeling that's going to be just what you're looking for. :goodjob: If possible I might try to adapt it for use as a mod to my scenario, at least the XML parts of it.... We'll see. :mischief:

Well not really, a full blown mod, all you have to do is add a few units and stuff, look at my North vs South and see!!

Hello
The map is really great, but I think I saw 1 bug and one thing which should be changed.:)
The bug is: when I finished Confederacy, I haven't won this map (and i coulndn't declare war to anybody). Of course I could wait 160 turns to time victory but it has no sense.
The thing to change: both nations (confederaty especially) should be more agressive. i played it on avegare difficulty of prince and... I have been atacked by confederates only 2 times.

The rest is absolutelly great
Congratulations:)

First of all, thank you for the compliment! Wow, that is a major, major bug, isn't it? I think I will have to do something with the non-players (neutral states, Indian territory, and Canada) -- reduce the number of cities or turn them into barbarians. I'll also add the "aggressive AI" option. Update coming soon. Thanks for the comments! :goodjob:

The Neutral States, Indian Territories and (British) Canada remained neutral and weren't attacked (nor did they attack) during the Civil War; AI stupidity apart, Aggressive AI (and attitude settings!) may be your best bet. If either side wins, that should also constitute a Domination/Influence Victory. (BTW, do either side have Great Generals at scenario start?)

Anyway, this may just be ideal for a two player game.;)

@m1wojtek: Welcome to CFC!:goodjob:

Hey, Ive played this one, its really good for a duel with a friend. Im becoming a fan of your scenarios el_hidalgo, your world war 2 scenario is hot too. The only negative I got about this one is the unable to declare war on the unplayable civs. :crazyeye:

Thank you! Yes, I need to change that and a few other things.... Actually working on an update now.

Is this for one of the expansion packs? I only have the basic civ iv and am not able to get this to open.
