Land is power
That is one of the main adagiums of civilization. It has been that way since the beginning of civI, and, even though there's less focus on it in CivIV than before because of the new city upkeep, more land still means more power. More land gives you more cities, giving more resources, more production and more research, which results in a bigger, better army, which in turn leads to easier wars, leading to more land...
Of course, there are several ways to obtain land. One way would be to wage war against the Spanish, and take their land (as can be seen in Focus #1). Another way is to claim the land that hasn't been settled by our enemies yet. This thread will focus on that.
Of course, in the end, we will probably still want to take either Lincoln's or Hatsheput's land. This strategy should make such a war easier, by making sure we will have the resources, technology and production to win such a war.
Goals
We will first need to decide where to settle. I think we should explore east to check for city sites there. The Corn-Cow-Gold city mentioned earlier is also a great choice. And then there's still some nice grassland between Arete, New Giruvegan and Edorai. There's also a 2x clam city east of Arete. Altogether, there's plenty of room to expand our empire, so we'll be ready for the future.
In this scenario, we should probably build an academy in Arete, as it's our best
city right now. Both Arete and Arkadia can focus on commerce, while Edorai and New Giruvegan build settlers and workers.

Goals
- Claim land, obviously. We should try to block to other civs (especially Lincoln) from expanding, so we can back-fill the continent and become the biggest empire.
- Stay peaceful with both Lincoln and Hatsheput so we can trade techs with them, meaning we have to research less ourselves.
- Get some economic techs like Currency (you knew I would mention this, didn't you
), Code of Laws and Civil Service to sustain our empire and pay for our upkeep. By focusing on the economy now, we will soon be the biggest economic factor on the continent. That should mean we are technologically advanced, so our advanced military will be fighting backwards enemies.
- Grow "vertically", our military will be in our cities, and with Hereditary Rule, that will allow us to grow our cities bigger. Focusing on building like granaries and temples instead of on offensive military units will also make this growth easier. These bigger cities will be a great help later on.
